So, Luke's hand (still clutching his dad's lightsaber) flies out of Cloud City and lands on Tattooine? Riiiiggghhhttt.
If they're gonna make this stuff up, they should have said that Vader's lightsaber (or remnants of) somehow landed on the moon of Endor. That's remotely possible, at least.

I think that instead the article is probably referring to Luke's second lightsaber, the one he built himself. Which would mean somebody severed his hand again.
If this rumor is anywhere near true, it means we'll likely see Luke outfitted with a far more rough-and-ready prosthesis later in the film--if the apparent Mad Max aesthetic of the new trilogy is anything to go by.
Of course, the OT Storyboards book revealed that the idea of Luke losing his mechanical right hand was already thought up back during ROTJ.

Speaking of the Empire, I don't want to see a New Republic when episode 7 begins. We already saw a Republic in the prequels (in other words, democracies make for bad movies) and episodes 7-9 should be about accomplishing new things, not about maintaining what was accomplished in the OT and in the 30 years in between ROTJ and episode 7.

No matter what you may think of the prequels, none of the rumors or even legit story points from those films were ever as bad as some hand falling in space after the title crawl.
