Spoilers ahead of course.  This may also be BS who knows

"I'll break it down into plot devices by act.

Act 1

Poe is trying to incite a rebellion in Jakku against the First Order, who recently took over the system. A gang member sells him out and he is captured. The village he was trying to train is slaughtered like animals and when Finn doesn't partake Kylo Ren, who is parading around saying he's Luke Skywalker, butchers his close friend and has Finn detained.

Rey is trying desperately to leave Jakku, she's scavenging wrecks trying to find parts to restore the Millennium Falcon.

Finn inadvertently uses the Force to break out and helps Poe escape. They steal a TIE fighter, but it's shot down. Poe ejects before the crash, Finn is stuck in the TIE. Rey finds Finn and BB8 and the last parts she needs. Finn tells Rey he will pay her to take him off Jakku. Kylo Ren is informed Finn used the Force to escape. The Falcon finally starts up after Rey hits it.

Captain Phasma leads a group of TIE fighters after the Falcon.

The General tells Kylo Ren they can't wait any longer and that "He" wants them to fire the weapon.

Jakku's star is destroyed as the Falcon jumps to lights from previous coordinates.

Act 2

The Falcon comes out of hyperspace at Yavin. Fighters escort the Falcon down where Han and Chewie board anxiously as both thought the Falcon lost forever. Rey is searched and a lightsaber is found in her possession. Rey and Finn are taken to Maz, a local Jedi, to be determined as either light or darkside.

Maz senses the darkside in them, and ignites the lightsaber before saying in horror "it was his..." She uses the force to see how Rey found the lightsaber and determines it found her "for a terrible reason" and explains that only one person ever wielded it and didn't use it to commit atrocities.

This prompts Finn to speak up about who he thinks is Luke Skywalker leading the First Order and Maz decides to take them to Leia. The First Order is alerted that the First lightsaber of Darth Vader has been ignited after years of inactivity. Kylo retreats to a private area to speak with his master and tells him he believes they are after two force sensitive with Vader's first lightsaber. His master tells him to be mindful, that there is unbalanced in the Force and that something larger may be at play. Kylo orders an attack on Yavin to retrieve Finn and Rey. Maz presents Leia with the lightsaber, and Poe steps forward and defends Finn while nearly being knocked over by BB8. Finn is questioned about the First Order. He describes their Super Weapon and a secret base which is not yet complete and may be vulnerable to attack. Han tells Leia he still does not trust them because they had his ship and Chewie echoes this sentiment.

Alarms go off and Threepio alerts people a Star Destroyer has just come out of hyperspace. Poe leads an X Wing squadron against the TIE's and Han asks Chewie if he's up for another run. He then tells Rey and Finn they might as well make themselves useful.

They fight off the squadron and the First Order appears to retreat. Later that night though, Rey is captured and the temple/base is destroyed.

Han, Poe, Finn, Leia, Chewie, and Artoo all agree to rescue Rey and destroy the base, and hope to confront Luke and try to talk some sense into him (remember, we know it's Kylo Ren, the characters do not)

Act 3

Ren questions Rey about who she is, who her parents are, etc...

Rey doesn't know. She even tells him she doesn't have a last name.

He tells her he can feel the force is strong with her, and that she need not fear it.

He's interrupted and told that Resistance fighters are approaching.

There is a massive battle, but the base is more operational than originally believed. Han finds Kylo (who he believes to be Luke) and tries to talk to him. Kylo ends the conversation pretty quickly and has Han detained.

Republic Forces show up less by Ackbar, officially making this skirmish the First battle of a new Civil War. As the battle turns in the Resistance's favor, now aided by the Republic, General Hux activates an EMP like weapon that knocks every ship out of the sky and makes an escape. Rey notices an X Wing still in the air with colors and markings she'd never seen.

As she and Finn make a run for it, Kylo stops them. Finn tries to fight him and loses an arm. Rey holds her own, but Kylo uses the force to seize her throat and lift her in the air. Rey sees his thoughts in this moment. When he was young, his village was attacked, and his baby sister taken from him by a man with a robotic arm.

Kylo is aware Rey can see his thoughts and says "Kira..." Kylo is knocked to his feet by a hooded man with a green lightsaber. He engages him in a duel but is outmatched and flees.

Han is freed but badly injured.

Rey takes the Falcon away again to an isolated moon where Luke tries to talk to her, but she wants to be left alone. She insists.

Finn gets a robotic arm and Luke tells him he will train him.

The Republic is aware of the power of the First Order and will no longer take them lightly.

Word that the real Luke Skywalker has returned is spreading throughout systems threatened by the First Order. Rey builds a lightsaber.

Kylo Ren visits his master to face discipline for failing. Luke, a banged up Han, and Leia, look out of a bay at the Stars.

The reunion is sweet, and victory is theirs this day, but war has returned to the galaxy far far away...."

Still a less silly name than Porkins.
Also maybe it's a nickname, he is a gang member after all. And of course the official canon before Disney changed it had a swoop gang leader called Big Gizz.

I don't understand the strong reactions to these names, SW has always had some pretty silly names, especially for supporting characters and villains.

Anyway; anyone have a thought on this?

It looks like it's the same object, and in the Look and Find picture it looks like some kind of large droid dog.

Plus the names aren't necessarily said out loud in the movie itself anyway. Look at all the characters that had names in the supplemental books, or as action figures, but were just unnamed background aliens in the other movies.

The lack of any new character names makes it hard for me to believe this is legit. Which is a shame, because I like this story better than the stuff MSW has been passing off these past months. I'd be pretty ok with this being the movie we get in December, even if it would re-canonize the Suncrusher.

I don't think this is legit. There's no mention of Tasu Leech who we know is a character that will appear at some point.

Well, contray to how my comment may have come off, I'm not really angered or annoyed* by the silly names. I'm just being my usual snarky self.

*Well, except for "Phasma". I really don't care for that one.

That's a very literal interpretation of why there's humans ins SW.
I'm pretty there are humans in SW because weird looking aliens from a galaxy far, far away would have been hard to identify with. Also you have to keep in mind that SW is more fantasy than sci-fi, so the reason there's humans there is pretty much the same reason they're in Middle Earth; because we need someone familiar to identify with.

Dagobah's lousy with regular old Earth lizards and snakes. Pigs don't seem like a leap at all. None of that matters anyway, though, since at the end of the day it's just a surname.

^Right. Which is why they can nickname someone Porkins even though there may or may not be pigs in space. It's for the audience to relate to. Like Han saying "I'll see you in Hell!" That doesn't necessarily mean there's a religion in that galaxy that believes in Heaven and Hell.

Right. Same reason someone can be called Droopy McCool or Wicket W. Warrick. It doesn't always have to make perfect sense. It is after all a set of films about fictional characters. I often wish the EU writers would realize this. I can't help but roll my eyes sometimes when I read about characters or species on Wookiepedia.
For example; you can get a pretty extensive analysis of the biolgy and appearance of the Sarlacc. I personally can't help but feel that we never needed an answers to these kinds of questions, and that many of them should never have been answered.  I actually preffered to not know what a full Sarlacc looked like. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the image of a large gaping mouth in the desert. It had a nice and weird fantasy feel to it. It was more about impact, than an attempt at realism. But now it's just another funky-looking animal that you can look up on a wiki.
You kind of lose some of the magic with this kind of over-analysis. It don't need a full explanation, it's not real life.

It doesn't really matter, I was just being a nitpick. SW is a fantasy/sci-fi universe which can have pretty much anything the creators want to put into it. So why not pigs. They already have humans, regular birds, lizards and snakes, so why not pigs as well?

And speaking of the creators being able to put into SW whatever the heck they feel like, I just remembered the giant pig creature that will be appearing on Jakku in TFA.

Yip & I'm sure their name Gamorrean comes from Gammon by George or someone, in production they were called pig guards

Same as Ree Yees name came because he was called Three eyes in production
