Perhaps Lando has been a lounge singer on an intergalactic cruise ship on the outer rim? It would explain where the heck he’s been. 😉

I remember Collin Trevawhatever had said he was going to shoot IX in 65mm. Has Abrams kept this decision in place?

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: The first official photo (the only official one so far if I’m not mistaken) from the set was tweeted out by JJ himself back in early August the day they started principal photography. It very clearly shows a Panavison 35mm film camera, one of the very same used to shoot TFA in fact (it has “VII” and “IX” etched into the side in the yellow wireframe font). In the photo you can even see the lcd display viewfinder which shows that the camera’s capturing a native 2.35:1 image just like the majority of TFA and TLJ.

So, they definitely won’t be shooting the whole movie in 65mm judging by the photo, probably not even the majority. Abrams shot the escape from Jakku scene in TFA entirely in Imax, with the picture filling the screen if you saw the movie in that format. Johnson shot some Imax for the Ahch-To scenes and some taller aspect ratio stuff for Krayt (it’s unclear if this was also actual Imax or some other format) but opted in the end to keep the Imax version 2.35:1 throughout the entire movie just like the normal version.

I’m sure Abrams will probably shoot some of IX in Imax as well, although there hasn’t been any official word AFAIK. He may even mix in some 5-perf 65mm stuff as well (that’s the normal 65mm Trevorrow wanted to shoot all of IX in).

Just watched the trailer. It didn’t excite me at all. Didn’t know I could be this over seeing new SW films.

To be fair, nothing happened in the trailer… save for the cackling

I could’ve waited another year maybe, I’ll give you that.

I mean, there are definitely things to talk about with the trailer.

  • What does the title mean?
  • Why would they need to visit the ruins of the DS II?
  • Is that Tatooine or Jakku?

I think it refers to Ben Solo. Rise of Skywalker is not plural, so Rey will not be a Skywalker. Or, she will take on the name and Ben will somehow drop it- which is ultimately impossible since he has rebuilt his mask.

  • Why would they need to visit the ruins of the DS II?

I think it is connected to Palpatine’s laugh. Ian was confirmed to have an onscreen appearance, so he will likely have returned possibly as a spirit here. This may be where Ben and Rey face off, in the same room as Luke and Vader. I think this must be some “final battle” because it has a shot of all the heroes.

  • Is that Tatooine or Jakku?

My hope is Jedha, but I would not be surprised if Tatooine or Jakku return.

Ok. I still don’t think my theories are considered “spoilers” tho, I just got them from watching the trailer. But thanks for the reminder, I’ll spoiler tag the posts.

I think it’s mostly comments like “so in so has been confirmed for such and such” as part of the speculation, not the speculation in and of itself.

If you want to speculate in general, that’s cool in here, but if you want to speculate based on leaked information, you gotta use the spoiler thread.

I find it funny how many people bash TLJ for having so many women in prominent roles,

I don’t think it’s “many”. It’s a loud few who’s stupid messages are parroted by the outcries of the people they upset, which only makes their voices louder.

when if anything, I felt they were under utilized. It felt like almost none of them had an arc of their own, instead serving as supports for the arcs of the men.

I’ve read this compliant much more than the other, though I think people tend to lump in with the other complaint.
I find that interesting.

But did they officially announce an appearance in the film itself from that person?

Yes.

Except they didn’t, because that person literally just said in an interview that they aren’t in it.
