I had some high hopes for this edit, but I was left with mixed opinions. I didn't think everything he took out was necessary. Some things he missed and a few edits just caused more problems with continuity.

This one got deleted after the first viewing.

I've never seen the The Phantom Edit. I suppose one of these days I'll have to check it out. I can't recall what the Ep3 edit was that I downloaded, but that was a keeper.

Does anyone have the AppleTV version of Attack of the Phantom?

Well, both of these were done prior to the subsequent films coming out in the theaters - PE was done prior to 2002 and AOTP was done prior to 2005 - so he was trying to predict what was going to happen in the subsequent films.  He didn't have the benefit of hindsight with all 3 discs sitting on his table first.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I'd love to see the phantom edits in great quality. Something that's always bothered me was that these two fantastic edits are somewhat rough around the edges (aka no opening crawl's and the continuity errors apparent in attack of the phantom). It would be a really cool project for someone to redo these edits very close to the way they were originally, just with opening crawls, better picture quality, and re-inserting the chase through coruscant and dogfight in the asteroid field that created more problems than they solved by being removed.

Any takers? :p

What I meant by continuity was within the movie itself. Like cutting out the entire obi-wan / jango space battle and then not explaining all the damage to obi-wan's starfighter.

I started watching The Phantom Edit today and already see some cuts I disagree with. Some of the cut talky scenes help to establish Jedi abilities and Queen Amidala's story, and I miss those. Some of the scenes don't feel connected. The pace does pick up though  - alot. I think I'll keep The Phantom Edit as a model for my own future edit.

Of course, Lucas himself may release a new edit in that rumored "Complete Saga" DVD set, which will have a new CGI Yoda in Ep. 1. I worried though that maybe he's lost his touch. Clone Wars isn't doing that well in theaters.

Is Nero or MyDVD good enough to do this type of work? I don't see people using it much in these forums. And the process seems to consume terabytes of disk space. I might have to get a disk array.
