Yes. To rush this out at the eleventh hour would waste the effort you've put in if it means you might cut corners. There will be an audience for it when it's ready to be seen.

Completely finished encoding droid factory. Major editing breakthrough- added the Dooku interrogation scene before the trial. I didn't realize how much it added to the movie and the goal I'm working toward. It really is dramatic now- gotta love Christopher Lee.

I can't wait until this is finally done. It's getting better and better

This is wonderful news and has me more excited to see the finished product. If you could continue to post an update every couple of weeks or so it would be greatly appreciated!

TM, I'm not looking for a sample or anything, but is the new Dooku dialogue working as well? I remember you saying that probably would. I'm just curious about that.

TM, why are you replacing Dooku's dialogue? He was one of the good actors in the film.

No, I'm not replacing Christopher Lee. Christopher Lee is wonderful. However, I made some plot changes and not all of the old dialogue fit. Just hang tight- this is one of my surprises

Listened to the 70's Gerhardt recording of the "King's Row" soundtrack. Great stuff. You'll be able to catch the main theme in some of the action music at the end of the film.

I know you have. Everyone has. It's been a long time. But this is definitely the final stretch. Within the next day or two, all of the video will be encoded and locked from the beginning of the film to the arena on Geonosis. Then, the only hurdles to completing all of the video are finishing rotoscoping Mace’s saber and altering the end credits to remove certain names (like “Eli Sleazabaggano”) and add names from OT.com. Also there is the problem of eliminating Anakin from the Dooku duel in a convincing way without using force lightning. If I can solve that problem, then the entire video track is good to go.

I’ve encoded for double-layer. I will probably shrink it down to single layer size without too many problems because the double layer movie will not be THAT much larger than the single layer size- the real advantage will be in room for the uncompressed audio and possible alternate audio tracks, probably including a commentary track.

I have this film in 20 sections. What I’ve done is encoded each section separately, oftentimes in more than one piece, and then stitched the MPEGs into one using Womble. When I have solved the three issues above and I have the complete, locked video file for SOTDS, I will create a new master file, drop all the audio tracks from the 20 sections into this master file, and then go through the audio with a fine-toothed comb, piece by piece, until I am happy with it. When I’m finally happy with all (nearly 2 hours) of it, I’ll simply render it out, synch it with the MPEG, and burn the first disc.

Basically, if I can figure out the Anakin/Dooku problem, then there are no further issues with the video and I can put full attention into the audio and then finally be done with this monster! Also, I should mention I’m going out of state in a couple of days and won’t be back for 2 or 3 weeks. If any of you could brainstorm on the Anakin/Dooku problem, or if one of the effects people would be kind enough to take a stab at erasing the lightning from the frame or something like that, I’d be very, very, very, very grateful.

Thanks for following!

"Dooku tears the object off of the wall and throws it at Anakin. You see the object fly towards the camera, you cut to Dooku, and then you see Anakin on the ground (implying that the object hit Anakin). It just doesn’t work well- it leaves you feeling cheated and makes it feel like a fan-edit. If Dooku hit Anakin with the object, you want to see the object hit him. At the very least you want to see Anakin fall to the ground. But the Anakin falling shot also contains the force lightning. It’s just not in the style to imply something as critical as that and not even show it. And yeah, the smoke is annoying, but if that’s the only continuity error, I can live with that."

Well, it still could be simliar...
-Dooku tears the object off of the wall (with yellow sparks and yellow electricity added) and throws it at Anakin.
-You see the object fly towards the camera (with a few trails of electricity added)
-You cut to Dooku
-You see Anakin fall to the ground with the object also falling, somewhat obscuring him, with trails of electricity(the force lightning that couldn't be removed could be tinted yellow).
-the smoke in the shot could be construde as dust from the object...?

Did that make sense?
I'll try again:
Try and remove all force lightning from the shot, but what can't be removed could be construde (if tinted yellow and/or white) as the electricity from the object.
Maybe?

SSWR,

I like your idea about the yellow electricity a lot. If possible, a shot of the thingie on the wall before it's ripped off might make it even more clear. In that shot (maybe just a second or two before it's torn off), have the thingie pulsating and glowing with yellow electricity. This might be asking too much, but if the thing can even be arcing with yellow electricity BEFORE it's torn off, that would be even better.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Author
Time
Yes yes...something to that effect, Ericstormtropper.
I think, it could at least have a few bolts of electricity flying off of the object as it's being ripped off the wall.
I actually made a really really rough pass at the falling Anakin shot to see if it would work, and it seems like it just might...

I definitely think this could work. In fact, I think it's the only way it could work, short of giving Dooku force lightning again, which would ruin the logic of the rest of the sequence as I've cut it.

I really hope either Adywan or TJDavis is able to create the two FX shots that would be required to make this work. It's very much over my head.

Well, I'm back from the trip and back to work on this monster. I have from the arena to the end of the film to encode, which will require only three things- new end credits, the redone lightsaber shots, and a solution to the problem of section 19. Then it's just audio work.

Thanks for following,

TM
