Couple questions as this two year long endeavor scuffles its way across the finish line:

You said your 20th century fox logo would be the old school 70s version, but I can't remember what your source was. Was it GOUT, or from an anamorphic source, like Alien?

Also, your Lucasfilm logo. I dunno, just putting it out there, but the revamped logo from Willow is all shiny and modern (a la prequels), but at the same time retro (a la classic Star Wars). Maybe it would be a nice compromise, since the original 70s title card might seem anachronistic in such a new film.

I like that logo, but I still prefer the original Lucasfilm logo.

No, I am pretty sure he is using the old logo. He wanted to make this match the old ones. But, I could be wrong. Anyway, I am with Marvolo, I like the original better.

How's this?

Original text redrawn

Font's Univers Bold. I typed the other text in Franklin Gothic Book. Because it's saved as a SSA script I can redo it to any resolution.

Moly, why fix something that is not broken? The original is fine the way it is.

I'm not fixing it - but you can only scale GOUT footage up so far. This being vector can scale much higher. Say, if someone were to do something like the Vintage Edit or the Classic Edition, and wanted to go top quality wherever possible, this would give equivalent quality to the best source they'd be working from.

Needs a bolder font, not sure how to pull it off when the font is already bold, and lighter, but I'd download it . But yeah GOUT's Lucasfilm logo kinda jitters and stuff, plus can't handle scaling very well, as you said, so a redone typed lucasfilm and long time ago title card would be good for better quality. Prolly really only need to post the vector images, not an avi, but it's a good idea.

Well, May 25th is a week from tomorrow. What's it looking like?

Well, that depends on your location, but from Sluggo's location, it sounds like it is not looking too bad.

Hi everyone,

I really don't want to disappoint you guys, but I've basically failed. I'm not going to be able to deliver this on the 25th. I've actually had literally no time to work on this at all this entire month. I haven't even had time to visit this thread at all.

All I can say is that I'm really sorry and except for one hitch, everything is set to roll. It's just a matter of putting in the time to make it happen. The one hitch is that we can't figure out a convincing way for Dooku to remove Anakin from the duel without using force-lightning. I've talked with several people and nothing has worked. Keeping the force lightning would introduce a multitude of plot holes later in the sequence, so that isn't an option. I'm stumped on this one.

I guess all I can say is to forget about it, and then one day (could be a month from now, could be 4 months), I'll let you know that I finally did it. I'm not going to set and break another deadline. I can't give you an unfinished product. But "Shroud of the Dark Side" very much exists.

I don't want to release the rough cut because it's chock full of errors and I want you to see this the right way. But one person on this forum has actually seen the rough cut of this movie. He said, "Your work is so superior to the original edit that you cannot lose now."

After I release the movie, I'll let you know the reason it took so long- I think you'll understand.

Regards,
TM

Oh, and thanks for the redrawn Lucasfilm logo. I'm probably still going to go with the original, thicker version, but thanks for doing that.

Geez Louise, TM! Don't be so hard on yourself. If you can't make the deadline, don't sweat it. Real life comes first. And if folks here can't deal with it, maybe they need to spend some time in real life as well.

Take the time to do it right. I understand and give my full support.

What Sluggo said, plus summer is here and it's too damn nice to spend so much time in front of a computer! It'll get done when it gets done.

Like I've said before: we've waited this long, a little while longer certainly won't kill us.

About how to take Anikan out of the fight without force lightning, have you tried painting out the lightning and make it look like a force throw? I know you would have to remove the smoke coming off Anikan in the next few shots, but let me know what you think.

I've thought of that, but I don't think Adywan was able to pull it off convincingly enough.

Trooperman,

Please take as much time as you need. Don't beat yourself up or think you've failed.

Regarding taking Anakin out of the duel, can you use one of the shots of Dooku force-pulling a "thingie" off the wall (from the Yoda part) and throwing it toward Anakin? The impact would be implied, but we could then see Anakin hit the floor (I guess the rough part is still removing the smoke when Anakin's laying on the ground).

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Great minds think alike, I guess- my current cut is edited exactly as you just described it. Dooku tears the object off of the wall and throws it at Anakin. You see the object fly towards the camera, you cut to Dooku, and then you see Anakin on the ground (implying that the object hit Anakin). It just doesn’t work well- it leaves you feeling cheated and makes it feel like a fan-edit. If Dooku hit Anakin with the object, you want to see the object hit him. At the very least you want to see Anakin fall to the ground. But the Anakin falling shot also contains the force lightning. It’s just not in the style to imply something as critical as that and not even show it. And yeah, the smoke is annoying, but if that’s the only continuity error, I can live with that.

One thing I had forgotten, though, is that TJDavis also offered to help with this scene. He’s the man behind the new droid analysis scene in SOTDS. Maybe he’ll be able to figure out how to remove the force lightning.

I know I said I wouldn't set another deadline on this, but....

There's no way I'm going past Christmas on this There really isn't that much left.

As several of us have already said, I think we're all willing to wait if it means that the final product will be even better.

Don't sweat it, TM. It ain't ready till you say it's ready!
