cbaka: Thanks for the kind words and for the encouragement. I really want to have a PT movie that I can sit down and enjoy. I'll keep working on it. The latest trouble is that the AVI I have created from the MPEG-2 file has some glitches in it, which sends me back to square one with re-ripping the DVD.

Hal 9000: Really? Sorry about that. I didn't know Rapidshare does that. Not so rapid on the sharing. I could upload it to YouSendIt if you are still having trouble. Or if you know of a different service for file sharing that I could try, I'd be up for that, too.

I got to all the files eventually, don't worry about it.

Very good! I'm looking forward to seeing your edit as a whole. Episode III is the hardest to edit, and is the one I'd like to alter the most.

I think LFL should just re-do ROTS, and make it more like how the earlier scripts were, before Grevious and all that stuff.

My stance on revising fan edits.

i' v' done 70% of editing (some very minor rotoscoping) the most delicate was the sound and the score ..i didn't know at all about how doing things..and i'm still learning..and i'm doing it in two languages (english and french) want to do things perfectly..hard long work..the most diificult is to have time to do it....

Okay, cool. Thanks for the "very good". It's encouraging to hear people approve of the cuts I've made.

I'm not up on the earlier versions of the ROTS script; I've heard that Count Dooku was originally intended to be in at least half of the movie, but what other things were changed that you'd like to see in a new film?

Personally, I'd like to see what kind of movies the Original Trilogy would be if Lucas remade them completely according to his original vision. I think it could be a cool alternate Star Wars (if he didn't do the writing, of course).

70% is awesome. What did you rotoscope, if I might ask? I'm fearing the sound and the score, but I know that's what is really going to make the whole thing work.

Yeah... things worth doing are worth doing right, and time is hard to come by sometimes. I've put editing off because of my fear of the uphill technical learning curve. But I just need to dive in.

Have you posted any of your edits?

Originally Anakin was to kill Dooku the way he killed Windu, towards the middle of the film.
There was no Grevious, because that character was created to fill in the gap that was left when they decided to kill Dooku off within the first fifteen minutes.
Obi-Wan wasn't sent to kill Grevious/Dooku either.

And it opened with a montage of the Clone Wars being fought on seven different planets, instead of the flat rescue of Palpatine.

Deciding to kill off Dooku and replace him with Grevious opened up a lot of problems, and I think ruined the story of the first half of the movie. (Which subsequently helped ruin the story of the second half.)

My stance on revising fan edits.

Awesome! I'd love to see what you've come up with.

The way it should've been! I've got an idea for changing the transformation; not sure if I can do it, but we'll see. But if you're not sharing, then neither am I. Besides, there needs to be SOME surprise for the final cut, right?
...probably after the summer all we'll be ready fot the final result..

Sounds like a good way to finish off the summer. Where are you travelling if I might ask?
..DH i'm an newbie "editor" if you look/ask for some advices youre in the right place...

That's already become apparent. Thanks for the list of names; I may need to ping them down the line. Thanks again for your encouragement!

Please, forgive the abbreviation , and thanks for the breakdown of the Episode 3 that could have been. The Clone Wars montage could have been so cool and such a better continuation of where Episode 2 left off!

The other parts you mentioned that were changed or created to fill the gaps go a reee-aaally long way to explaining the weakness that exists in those parts as they now stand. Bummer.
Heck, I'd be willing to send you a copy of my edit, for what it's worth.

If you wanted to see it.

Heck, yeah! Seems like you have a critical eye for a more mature story. I'll PM you.

Can these be uploaded somewhere beside Rapidshare?

Hal, do you have a copy of this script? I would love to read it.

There was a great ebook someone posted a while ago here. It was about how the story of Star Wars changed and evolved over time.

The chapter about ROTS is how I know what I said above. I can't find the link, but I think it's called "The Story of Star Wars" or something.

I REALLY like what you did with a lot of the Sidious/Palpatine fight! I've been concerned with how I was going to wrap that scene up, but I think your cut directly to Anakin saying "What have I done?" might lead me to the answer.

I also like the voice of Qui-gon (?) coming to Master Yoda as he meditates. Was that a foreign voice dub?

The "Dooku Very Cool Saber" clip ubfortunately didn't have any audio.
ps: travelling to greece...

Cool. I definitely want to visit there someday.

Okay, cool. I downloaded that a while back but haven't jumped into it yet. Seems pretty exhaustive at something like 400+ pages!

A few people have done some stuff in the vein of what you're doing with the meditation scene. I hope that it's okay that I reposted Marvolo's and GoodMusician's clips here. Marvolo's clip incorporates some lines of Liam Neeson's from Batman Begins originally done by ADigitalMan.

GoodMusician's clip uses an Episode 3-style Force Vision showing that Yoda knows what happened with Anakin and Obi-Wan's duel and that Padme's life is in danger.

Maybe these ideas could help you if you can't find someone to do a voice-over for you.

Did you change the audio for the saber clashes, or did you change them visually?
..the big work was to give sens to the cuts for enhansing "the story telling", trimming some "lines" etc..

Tell me about it. There's so much bad dialogue.

the qui-gon lines are based mostly from the EPIII comic book and specially from T'bones starwars universe that's helped me a lot, i've added the saber ignition for Count dooku when he jump from "balcony" to face obi and anakin (i'm trying to eleminate the salto jumping, it's so ridiculous), adding some saber sound effects to all the fights, eleminate some redendante dialogues, eleminate most of the droids "Ben burtt" lines, in some cases i've replaced them, rearranged most of the fights to make them more "faster and intense" (especially : Grievous/Obi)..there's a lot more..i'll trying to do a list of the changes and post it soon ...

That dialogue is interesting. Maybe someone here on the forum will eventually volunteer. Have you thought of trying to piece together the dialogue word-by-word from other Liam Neeson movies?

I definitely like the idea of increasing the intensity of the fighting in your edit. I don't like the robot voices at all; I'm trying to leave them out of my edit as much as possible. Have the voices been fairly easy to remove?

I think I have a way to eliminate the weird jump that Dooku does and still have the scene look okay. If it works and I can get to it in the next couple of days, I'll post it.

a lot of work here, and i dont have some Neeson's (english dub) movies (i'm french)

i've used sound forge to manipulate the sound, but you can use free software to remove voice like goldwave..ther's also a plugin called "vocal remover" google it and y'll find it...

For the dooku Salto, i think i have to learn to do something like adywan did for his work on ANH (with photoshop)
probably after the summer..

In my edit, I just cut out the salto, showing Dooku falling and landing but not the actual jump. I think that works pretty well, but obviously, if you have the skills to fix it in Photoshop without making it look ridiculous (*cough* Hayden's head on Shaw's body *cough*), that's even better.

cbaka, I really like the idea of impersonating Neeson's voice. I actually preferred the clip you posted over ADM's solution, which just sounded really fake, IMO. Although, like you said, your voiceover was not perfect, for a second I actually thought "Wait a minute... How did he get Liam Neeson to say this?" All in all a decent impersonation.

darkhelmet, I finally got to watch the rest of your clips, and I really like what I'm seeing. I especially like how Anakin interrupts Palpatine in the "Chancellor as Sith" scene, and how Padme says nothing when Obi tells her of Anakin's dark deeds. Good job!

I've had an idea for how to remove Dooku's jump. Just cut it out completely.

There are two shots of the Jedi and Palpatine discussing Dooku. Go directly from: "This time we take him together. I was about to say that." to "He's a Sith Lord. Sith Lords are our speciality " (not the exact dialog). Just lay in some footsteps behind their dialog (to imply Dooku has walked down the stairs). When we next see Dooku ("your swords please"), it actually looks like he is walking away from the stairs, not the spot he jumped to.

It's my personal theory that Christopher Lee actually did walk down the stairs, and this was shot. However, Lucas didn't like something about it (maybe there was Dooku dialog he didn't like). So instead of reshooting the scene, he just had ILM use the gaudy CGI jump.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
