I'll look through my tapes too. Every time I saw or heard that theme I would run to the tv and pray that they were playing Star Wars again. Or Conan the Barbarian, or Iceman, or ........... I have wanted that in a good format forever, I can't believe I never thought to look through my old tapes.

I wonder if anyone has the knowhow to recreate that HBO bumper in 480p...

Speaking of 480p- will this Emmet Otter DVD be progressive when finished, or can't you do that because it was originally shot on videotape? (or at least it looks that way to me).

Excuse my ignorance- I'm just learning about this stuff.

I didn't touch the video - I simply flew in the clip. (Didn't want to wreck the quality)

I can try to convert it - I have gotten good 480p from VHS rips, but they were pristine VHS rips... better quality even than the Nick Jr. rips... and...well, it would probably be 30 fps still... pretty sure that video's not a 24 fps source...

Depending on the player. (To even be watchable on my PC I have to convert it to 30 fps progressive in realtime. This is why all my AVIs are progressive. But for a TV, it's prolly best to leave it alone, if it's 30 fps interlaced.)

I decided it was best not to re-encode at all. The DVDISO I have prepared contains the exact footage which mielr provided me - just cut together to the best of my ability from the two different sources.

I'm going to burn it off once I can stop the torrent I'm seeding now, and right after that I'll put up this torrent. (And since I coadmin a friend's server, I'm prolly going to use it to give the torrent a little kick.)

Molly. Not sure if it was you who posted the "request" on youtube but in case it is just coincidence there seems to be a really nice full version that the originator may be able to hand over if asked.
HBO clip

So sad that things like this happen to films like this.I mean, sure my kids have seen this. But they don't get to see what I saw originally and that really sucks. This is why i appreciate all the hard work that goes into these preservations you all do.

HBO also used to run a short back in those days about how that bumper was made. And it's on Youtube!

One year, HBO actually spoofed themselves just for April Fool's day. The music was the same, but you saw a cheap video camera POV shot shake it's way over bits of the original model, followed by the logo dropping from above on very visible wires!

That sounds funny as hell. I'd love to see that.

Is this it? **CLICK** (sounds like kazoo music, though)

Recognize the credits at the very beginning?

Actually had it done for a few days (my comment about flying in the clip on the 13th was after the edit was complete) but I've barely been out of my apartment since then.

To steer this thread back to "Emmet Otter", I'd like to announce that after four months of on-and-off editing, plus constant upgrading of source material, this edit is done but for bonus features, menus, and disc mastering (which could take another week or two, but...).

A disc image was put together for this, but I still need to tweak a few things (mainly covering the visual noise commonly found at the very bottom of VHS-sourced material...turns out I missed a few spots). I may have someone look at my V1 before I finish the final master.

What I believe is the final disc image file is processing overnight as we speak. The mistakes I noticed on the first master allowed for me to correct and revisit even more bits and pieces, making for a much better presentation. I will review the finished disc sometime this week, after which I hope to consider it finished. Full cover art will follow as well, plus detailed text on what I did to make this finally complete.

Augh...a new problem.

I finally watched the latest version on my home TV, and have come to the conclusion that even after eliminating the macrovision from the Columbia-Tristar DVD, it still captured a bit brighter than it actually should be. The only way I can tell this is by looking at the black screens between the fades. Not only is it brighter than what Premiere considers standard black, but it reveals digital blocks that you wouldn't see when watching the actual C/TS DVD. Remembering the bad reception that this kind of problem created for OCP's Star Wars Episode IV Classic Edition version 2.0, I have no choice but to re-edit, yet again, and make a new (third) image file of this edit, hoping that I can accurately recreate the black levels.

I. Am not. Happy.

Sorry I never got back to you on this, What.Cobbler?, but could you possibly still use my Super-VHS copy recorded off Nickelodeon in 1997? It's only missing a few seconds during the talent show when the cable system burped...
