ROTJ The speeder bike chase is already pretty good, but the acting from Hamil's part is terrible. Can you adjust the "side by side" part so that it realy looks more like the scout trooper pushes Luke off his bike?

That's fine as is I say. Luke's speeder seems to be stuck on the scout's speeder and, rather than ride it into a tree, he jumps off.
Not riding a speeder into a tree is totally the way of the Jedi.

If anything needs to be done with the speeder chase, its smoothing out the jigglies on some of the far away shots. The speeders in the distance really wiggle against the forest background.

Just a few thoughts:

- Might want to look at the "Shadows of the Empire" CD for extra audio if you haven't already, Ady. I know this was mentioned a while back in the ANH:R thread.
- Please, please, please remove all the belches, the Tarzan yell, and Greedo's lines (that was unbelievably lazy of them!) from ROTJ. ;)
- I don't really care to see a single change to Yoda's appearance anywhere, but if any changes are made, I know Ady's good taste will prevail!
- I'd love to hear some alternate audio and/or sound effects from the known sources , if applicable.
- Would love to see Ady's take in the alternate intro to ESB that is on the EditDroid version of the movie (you know, with the blue letters and snow)

At any rate, it's fun to follow these threads. :)

I'm also a strong advocate for the "your mother" replacement line. It just seems to fit so much better, and it would be nice to have that tie-in.

I had an idea the other day while I was watching ROTJ. I think that there are numerous times where Luke deactivates his saber. I think that this is avoidable. The entire duel with Vader his saber should stay ignited. He can still be unwise to have lowered his defenses without the saber being deactivated.

I also toyed with the idea of Luke having a blue saber like he was originally intended to, but I think too many people are against it for it. I thought it would be a good reflection of the Anakin vs Dooku in ROTS with Sidious in the background.

I have alway felt that the picture quality of ROTJ is pretty bad. ESB was so clear and rich with color and ROTJ looks very light and watered down. Everything looks like a matte painting.

Also the lightsabers sounds are very weak. There was too much of a crackling sound. I cannot wait to see the redone sabers. I almost wish that Ady had time to give us a sample of what he could do. I know that he cannot because he is very busy. He is a very talented guy.

but he didn't want to fight! and for at least part of it he was hiding, seems to me he deactivates his saber for good reasons.

I agree that he does not need to have it ignited when he is hiding. He could have it ignited and lowered when Vader approaches on the stairs though. He does not want to fight him, but it is kind of stupid not to have it ready for defense.

Sneak attack. Having it lit the whole time lets your opponent know exactly where you are, especially if it's in an open, dark, quiet area like the throne room.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I am talking about when he is on top of the stairs in front of Vader. He is not hiding. When he is hiding under the stairs, it makes sense not to have it ignited.

Also on a side note, i wonder if it is possible to make Luke force grab his lightsaber when he is hiding like it was supposed to happen.

I also thought this looked cool even though it is rough and most people do not want this to be changed

I've always found it funny how great the sabers looked in ESB and how bad they looked in ROTJ. (and I'm talking about any versions of the film, no matter what color they are) They usually tend to get things like that looking better as time goes on, not worse... In ROTJ, Luke's is too fat and bright, and Vader's is this skinny pink stick with barely any light in it compared to Luke's. Compare that with the end of their battle in ESB, where I think the sabers look great, brightness and size-wise.

didnt they give luke a green saber because it showed up better against the tatooine skyline?

the green saber is very cool.....though (just being a bit daft now) what if he had a yellow or purple one? could that highlight how we dont know if he is going to turn to the dark side or not?

I read something somewhere once, during the time in between TPM and AOTC, so we hadn't seen Mace's purple blade yet, theorizing that saber color was connected to Force orientation -

Red=Sith
Blue=Jedi
Green=Borderline, could tilt either way.

Which made sense for Luke in ROTJ as he was dancing on the border of turning to the Dark Side and for Qui-Gon in TPM since he seemed to look at the Force a little differently (Obi: "If only you would do as the Masters say, you would BE on the council", or words to that effect).

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

someone suggested that green was something associated to rank, ie yoda and qui-gon, like some jedi graduation thing, would have been interesting to see obi wan's lightsaber repainted green for the whole saga after he becomes master in ep3 - 4. though i agree, i do feel that teh green gives luke that edge as oppose to the blatent blue-red/GOOD VS EVIL blandness.

its cool how he wears black aswell.

Yeah, it looked cool. Quite un-Jedi-like.
For those of us that were around before ROTJ was released, the pre-release promotional photos of Luke in the black outfit were tantalizing. It made one wonder about whether or not Luke was going to align himself with Vader.

I've also heard that his saber ended up being green instead of blue because it wasn't showing up against the blue sky in the skiff battle scenes. It's interesting to see that it was still blue in the early trailers.

Take a look at the excellent Returning to Jedi documentary, you will notice footage of Luke during the sail barge scene with a blue lightsaber...

You can also just look at the original poster. It had Luke with a blue saber. I posted a link a few posts back of a video with Luke with a blue saber in the second duel with Vader. Whoever did it is not the greatest, but it is still interesting to see.

We also have the opprotunity to change the colors of a force ghost. Does anyone else think it is weird that both force ghosts and holograms are both blue? Kind of confusing for kids.

really? I don't remember ever being confused by it, and I've never known anyone else to say it was confusing. I don't think you give kids enough credit, they don't need everything spelled out for them. I think this would fall under the heading of 'changing things just because you can'

I'm not trying to start a fight I just think you need to have a really good reason before you change something in an already great film, I feel the same about the light saber is there any reason to make it blue? or would you just do it because you can?

I agree with you to a point. I myself was not confused. I just think it is odd that they are the same color. Maybe someone like Adywan can make the force ghost glow a little more or something.

One thing i won't be doing is changing any colours of the Sabers in ROTJ. There were only ever 3 colours in the OT: Red, Blue & green. I hated the way that they added a purple lightsaber just because SLJ thought it would be cool that he would be the only one with a purple one. I've seen some videos on YOUTUBE that have all manor of colours for the sabers which just becomes a "change it because you can" scenario. There will be no other colour sabers in any of my revisited saga than we saw in the OT.

I really don't think the force ghosts need recolouring at all. I've always loved the way they looked. I'm just thankful that they never did add Qui-Gon's ghost to ROTS because knowing GL he would have changed the look completely, although i have noticed that they look a little more faded than they use to.

I didn't really agree with the purple saber thing either. It just seemed so arbitrary. I thought it made sense that lightsabers be either red, green, or blue, since those are the primary colors of light.

I'd vote for removing Fett from ROTJ entirely - he does NOTHING for the whole damn movie except die in the most pussy-assed way possible. Leave him the badass he was in ESB.

I'd also vote for either keeping Shaw as a ghost at the end, or a meld of Hayden and Shaw like someone suggested (but more Shaw-like than Hayden-like). I could go either way on the eyebrows/eye recoloring in Anakin's death scene.

--edit--

I've been reading the 1981 rough draft of JEDI tonight, and I came across the description of the Sarlacc:

"The prisoners look down into the pit and see a disgusting mucus lined hole at the vortex of sand. Around the edge of the cavity are thousands of needle sharp teeth and four thin, ten foot long feelers that sweep across the sand looking for victims."

If you could revert the Sarlacc back to the pre-SE version, but make the four tentacles move around as described in the '81 script as if they're looking for prey, that would make the pit come to life in a decidedly non-campy way (that beak was atrocious).

I've also noted that the '81 script does NOT include Boba Fett anywhere in the script, which helps the case for cutting Fett out of JEDI entirely. There's also no musical number in Jabba's palace either - perhaps this could be cut to improve pacing as well? The Oolah falling into the pit scene (a pissed-off smuggler in the script) could still be intact - Jabba's watching dancers as music plays in the background (not the huge number that is in the movie now), and one tries to take advantage of his levity and chokes him, at which point he drops her in the pit (cut the added SE shots in the pit as well).
