Third, I like the idea of working the word "Sith" into ESB and/or ROTJ once or twice.

i agree with getting a sith mention in somewhere in the OT, or removing it from the PT altogether. one or the other.

...it's never made sense to me that Vader or Palpatine would consider Luke a "new" enemy several years after he saved Leia and destroyed the Death Star......

I think Palps sees him as a new enemy because Luke has just made contact with Yoda.....there is a tremor in the force......'I have felt it' Vader says.....the force is like a spiders web with Palps in the middle.

Why not cut it further to make this great threat a bit more anonymous (Luke, Yoda, Ben's ghost, the Other).

As a fan edit proposal it could even be the opening scene in the film setting up the whole 'search for Skywalker' plot stream though it would create the need for a new crawl and a new opening shot it would result in an un-interrupted Asteroid sequence.

I mention it here safe in the prejudgment that Adywan would never do such thing but it might interest someone.

VADER: What is thy bidding, my master?

EMPEROR: There is a great disturbance in the Force.

VADER: I have felt it.

EMPEROR: We have a new enemy.

VADER: Yes, my master.

EMPEROR: The Force is strong with him.

He could destroy us.

VADER: If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally.

EMPEROR: Yes…yes…he would be a great asset. Can it be done?

VADER: He will join us or die, master.

Just watched ROTJ on Bluray. :-(

The NO NOOOO is bad, BUT there are almost bigger gripes I have with it.

First some bits I'm OK with....

Inside Jabbas palace looks real good in bluray, the brighness seems up which may also play a problem with some of the later scenes.

I don't mind that Sebulba walks down some steps in Jabbas Palace.

I don't mind the Jabba's door pan.

Han defrosting from carbonite looks ok too, though the original was fine.

Ewoks blinking isnt great but its not terrible (except that only Wicket blinks, which makes the hundreds of other NONE blinking Ewoks look more like stuffed teddies. ) All or nothing here George!

Now, heres the bad....

Matte lines are very present. And worse, there are grey boxes around spaceships in battle, grey hexagon around the Death star in some shots, and weird anomalies/boxes around speeder bikes and the star destroyer as it plunges into the deathstar surface.(Maybe due to said Brightness levels being up?)

AND Vaders lightsaber throughout all 3 films is pink and painty.

The torturing of that Droid in Jabbas palace, still, the hot irons don't touch his feet.

Anyways, just thought I'd list what I noticed from the bluray for when Ady fixes this mess.

Yay, more shoving of the Prequels in our face!

I feel like "shoving" is a bit of an overstatement. I, for one, rather liked the addition of the battle droid head in the Jawa's crawler in Revisited.

The palace is asleep and no one is stirring...except for a dug?

SHOVE!!!

EMPEROR: Yes…yes…he would be a great Sith. Can it be done?

Just to say, the word "great" here reads like "better than good," rather than the sense of "powerful" as it's presumably meant. Bit casual for Palps.

Having one character move through the frame while all others are imobile is a way of drawing attention towards that particular character....in much the same way that you'll notice main characters walking down a crowded street will often be wearing brighter clothes than any of the extras who are there simply as "filler". If he had wanted to add a prequel alien to the thing to make a link between PT and OT then he should have had the dug relaxing in a corner like everyone else. A battle droid head in a pile of scrap is a good example of this.....its doing what the rest of the junk is doing....nothing. And your attention is still on the subject of that particular frame....the red droid that later blows his motivator

Point taken, particularly about the movement. I don't mind a little PT in my OT if we're trying to tie them together as a saga (as both Ady and Lucas are doing, really), but point taken.

Nor I.....but I DO firmly believe that Lucas is working backwards. Instead of making the PT feel more like what he had already created, he made it completely different and is going back to attempt to make the originals fit better with his new "films". The dug IMHO is the least invasive of all the changes....BUT it was done wrong. It should have been re-clothed, so as not to be a blatant copy of the AOTC one.....then should have been made to fit the action of that particular shot (some half-way decent CGI would go a long way as well)

Seems there is some good news about the blue rays.

Reviews from Blu-ray.com confirm that deleted scenes are scanned in HD quality!

Awesome for ROTJ:R

I know the Ewoks have been mentioned a few times, I don't think my ultimate wish of Wookies instead of Ewoks will ever happen. But one of my hopes with RotJ: Revisited when Ady gets to it is that as he has said the Ewoks will be made more fearsome and there will be less E-wok action. Something that occurred to me the other day was in ESB - Obi-Wan says he can't do anything to help Luke if he goes to face Vader....

Which made me wonder, could Obi-Wan and Yoda help the Rebels on Endor... It does seem to me from Obi-Wans sentence in ESB that they would then be able to help in other circumstance i.e. Could Yoda appear to Chewie and tell him the Emperors plan? (As Chewie does know Yoda from (RotS or perhaps earlier).

I've noticed in recent years that Return of the Jedi is very poor in iconic imagery. Star Wars and Empire had all these wonderful snapshot moments. The only ones in Jedi were recycled.

Star Wars and Empire used nature and made them alien. Deserts and Tundra are all over the world, but they made them work. They sold regular things as irregular things.

Jedi just doesn't sell the woods of California as very alien, simply because most people probably drive by woods very similar every day or live near woods like that.

So what can be done to Jedi to make it fresh and alien? One of the few solutions would be to turn the woods into a jungle, or change locations altogether.

or add mountains (image from MattePainting.Org)

Then the imperial fortress is just a damn box with a satellite dish over it. I think it should be more menacing.

Everything in Jedi is so phoned in. Jedi was just a case of what had been done in Star Wars only bigger and better. Aside from the swoop bike chase, there really wasn't any innovation. Everything was just so laid back.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

i like the idea of it over hanging a water fall. can you imagine the explosion causing it to fall and crash over the rocks?

has anyone suggested turning endor into some sort of prehistoric planet? so lots of dinosaurs and giant birds. almost like king kong. not necessarily like avatar, but perhaps it could just be BIG.

For what it's worth, I'm from the Southwest US, and Tatooine never seemed that alien to me. In fact, I think I liked Luke more because he grew up in a place that was so much like my hometown.

I thought Endor was the most amazing place I'd ever seen. I think I went to college in the Pacific Northwest because of a desire placed watching ROTJ when I was little.

They could just make the trees on Endor larger, thicker.

And Tatooine should be mostly just sand dunes with the occassional desert plain and rock outcropping. But Geonosis looks like its clone. The PT was the main culprit.

Tatooine in ANH should stay the same, but ROTJ tatooine needs some help, it's just very boring.

This was also noticable on the DVD's. Turn your brightness on your tv set way up and you'll see. Also, the TIE-fighters in the death star scene, seem to appear from nowhere in front of the millenium falcon. You can see this in de cockpit shot right after Lando says: 'fighters coming in". This has to be fixed
