ROTJ:
In the Luke-Vader duel on the DS, at the end when Luke begins to get aggressive and Vader falls and grabs the railing, and Luke starts hitting down on Vader's lighsaber, I think he should only hit down once or max. twice and then to the left and cut Vader's arm of. Normally he hits like 5 or 6 times, and although I do understand that it is the anger and aggression coming from him, it still looks a bit redundant, especially for a jedi. I tried it in VDub, and it looks good, without the music of course.

I love that part. It really conveys his blind rage, he's not even bothering to cut off the hand for a while, he's just stuck in this feedback loop of pure aggression and primal violence that is making him feel great.

I guess there are two shots in Empire that have always looked a bit 'off' to me.

firstly when Luke is initially attacked by the Wampa whilst on his taun-taun, and we briefly see it's face as it lunges into camera, something about the way the shot is framed ruins it's whole sense of scale and it ends up looking like a muppet sized hand-puppet and just appears badly inserted into the scene, not to mention it looks nothing like the special edition Wampa footage from the cave (which I don't mind the new footage). I don't know how talented anyone is with creature animation, but even if the original shot could be reframed to make him appear much larger and ominous and perhaps give his face and eyes a bit of articulation to make him look less puppet like.

secondly there's a brief shot during the Hoth Battle, I believe it's when Wedge (?) is flying around an AT-AT's legs with his tow-rope, there's one quick shot where the screen is framed by an AT-AT's Legs and a snowspeeder makes a pass across the screen behind the legs of the Walker and apart from a few wispy clouds it looks like they left the Bluescreen in the background and didn't matte in the proper sky background (ie. the sky is a very bright (bluescreen) blue) again it's a very brief split second shot that probably a little colour/saturation tweaking would fix and make it match the colour of the sky in the rest of the scene.

- now a bolder suggestion: emperor's minions could perhaps (if technically possible) changed from humans to neimoidians. There is plenty of neimoidian footage in the PT. This would be really a minor change since emperor's minions play no real role in the OT, but as neimoidian opportunistic nature suggests, they stay close to the ruling party - the emperor.

I doubt the Emperor had a very high opinion of Neimodians based on the prequals, they may be sycophantic and easily manipulated, but I doubt he would trust in them in an advisory capacity, they come across as pretty bumbling and stupid n the prequals. In ROTJ we barely glimpse his advisors but they do appear to be twisted and dark in a similar way to the Emperor, which lends them a greater sense of mystery to the buerocratic Neimodians. I always assumed they were dark Jedi of some sort, although the Prequals rule of 2 blows that theory out of the water.

Also if you want to get a clip of James Earl Jones saying "Your Mother..." Look no further than CD set of him Reading The New Testement of the bible. He says that at least twice on the cd set You might be able to put it with his ROTJ conversation with Luke. Luke says "Come with me" as Padme also said, then Vader repies "Obi-Wan once thought as you do." Which could be changed to "Your mother once thought as you do." Which seems to fit better.

but if you look at Revenge of The Sith it's clear that Obi-Wan makes much more of an effort to bring 'back' Anakin to the light, than Padme does, she barely even has a chance before Vader chokes her , and her trip to Mustafar she seemed to be on a mission to warn Anakin and was more in 'denial' than anything else.

your suggestion kind of works if you're viewing all 6 movies in order, but doesn't make much sense if you're viewing the original trilogy as a whole. and I'm not much in favour of changing the originals to fit in with the prequals, it's a dangerous area to tread.

The worst scene in the entire saga (yes, worse than jarjar) has to be that awful reunion scene on the rebel fleet in ROTJ. Please, shorten/cut that one. You know, the moment Luke shows up and decides to join Han and Leia... everyone starts smiling and hugging and laughing... *shivers* it's just like watching a bloody soap opera. It always felt out of place and very un-Star Wars to me.
I never got why they were so emotional anyway: they saw each other on Tatooine right? Luke went to visit Yoda after that, but as Yoda died not much after Luke arrived, it seems hard to believe Luke would stay there a few extra weeks before joining up with his friends again.

What ever it is that you are smoking maybe you should consider stoping it cold turkey. NOTHING is worst than Jarjar. LOL

Second the scene you speak of needed to be shown with that way; the emotional reunion of good friends that have come through years of struggle to be where they are now. Not only are they about to emabark on the last great battle to try to finally defeat the empire but the scene also shows the connection Leia has with Luke who is now a little uneasy with her and she picks up on that although she doesn't know why yet....

I for one hope this scene is left just the way it is. And if it were possible my wish would be that EVERY JarJar scene be cut out and deleted from the prequels for all eternity.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

OK, I may have exaggerated a little bit there (ok, a lot)

OK, I had another look at that scene (it had been quite a while since I saw ROTJ anyway) and well, i'll admit the scene wasn't as bad as I remembered it. It does indeed have its purpose with the whole Luke-Leia connection. But rewatching it helped me pinpoint the part I hate so much: when Han is looking for one more member and Luke appears and says "I'll join too" (or sth like that) an awful cheesy heroic tune starts playing in the background.
Don't tell me there's a need for that music? It has a "Look at me, I'm a jedi, I'm special, but I'll still help you!" air to it (while ironically he'll only endanger the mission by alerting Vader of their presence). A real jedi shouldn't act that way...
I for one hope this scene is left just the way it is.

Yeah well, it's just something that always bothered me, I don't expect everyone to agree.

Maybe removing the music from that scene would heighten the tension. Make it a little more serious.

For Jedi, I’d like to see Lapti Nek re-instated, but reduced/minimized to more of a background element. Jabba’s palace overall could stand to be a bit less silly, I wonder if removing certain bits like Boba Fett flirting or the crying Rancor keeper could help that. Maybe trim Salacious Crumb a bit, he is both wacky and muppet-looking.

I’d prefer to see the original sarlaac, and of course if anything could be done to give Boba Fett a less lame death that would be huge. At the very least the sarlaac belching could be cut. Honestly, I’d rather see Fett cut out of the movie entirely than to go out like such a bitch.

I would cut Chewie’s Tarzan cry on Endor. Takes me out of the movie big time. I also seem to remember that when the shield generator explodes, it is an absolutely enormous explosion, engulfing the area where our heroes would presumably be. I could be wrong, but I just remember it being way too big.

Also I always felt that when the Emperor is zorching Luke, it takes Vader just a bit too long to step in. That could just be tighter and more dramatic. Also maybe some extra work on the lightning effects to make it clearer that Vader is getting blasted with a lethal dose, it always seemed odd to me that Luke could withstand like five minutes of that, but five seconds was enough to kill Darth Vader.
can't you shut that chicken up?

I was thinking the same thing. Boba Fett is supposed to be the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy, but when we see him in ROTJ... he's more like jarjar in a suit: incredibly clumsy. So as you said: something should be done to make his character more believable or he should just be cut from the film.

i like the little shop of horrors sarlaac, but i would be impressed if anyone could work out how to make boba's death (or not depending on your fannon) better.

as for the shield generator dish explosion - the dish was a long way off, they planted charges at one end of the power core tunnel and the explosion snowballed as it travelled to the dish (just how i see it mind you, i have no data to back this up)

i'm pretty sure the reason a short burst of lightning killed vader is because it destroyed his breathing equipment

there have been some great muppet moments over the years but they DO NOT belong in star wars, any de-muppeting is probably the most important change needed to rotj
figrin d'an and the modal nodes - best band name ever!

But how else were they supposed to do those characters? A puppet or person in suit was the only way they had to do it, people complain about CG, puppets, or People in rubber masks! What else is there?

So after you have seen the ANH edit from ADY does anyone have some changes that pop into their heads. My number one thing is The lightsabers. I thought ADY did such a great job with the lightsabers and I hope he can do the same to ESB and ROTJ.

I also wish for a "Cantinaized" version of Yoda. If you have seen Ady's edit you know what I mean.

ESB:
Any way to cull enough Wampa stuff together to make the Wampa attacking Echo base subplot feisable?
During the Hoth battle,..insert Speederbikes, more AT-STs, & More AT-ATs (making it more of an epic battle).
Show more ships blockcading Hoth & rebels trying to fight their way out.
More ships/ people evacuating cloud city.
I don't mind all the SE additions,...keep um.

I think that with Adywan as the director and WXM, Mojo_LA and AugieBenDoggie helping on the CGI and 3D stuff, future Revisited edits could be a real candy, and done much faster, especially now that we know that Mojo_LA has an incredibly fast render farm at his disposal.

I think the Ewoks screen time should be trimmed in the ROTJ. They slow down the action in a very tense situation, and in some cases look very JarJarish

I really don't have any complaints about the sabers in ROTJ (original or 1997). For ESB, I suppose fixing up Vader's saber so it isn't pink so often would be a plus.

But then the 2004 DVD editions screw up the sabers BIG time, in both movies. Vader's saber is pink and orange. Luke's saber looks like it has a solid core sometimes (or it turns from white to yellow and back). The saber clash in front of the Emperor looks like crap now.

The bad colors and overly dark picture of the 2004 DVDs need fixing, for sure.

Other things to fix for ROTJ 2004:

Green matte boxes around ships throughout the space battle.

Fix the cardboard troopers in the "Emperor's arrival" if possible. Or at least make them look less like a matte painting.

Restore Han's line "It's allright... trust me" in barge fight

Either clean up the Sarlacc beak so it looks more natural, or remove it.

Remove the "Emperor's slugs"

Han Solo's reflection briefly in some blast glass right before the bunker blows.

Fix the part where Luke is kicking that guy on the sail barge and misses him by a mile yet the guy flies back anyway.

Nix "Jedi Rocks" in favor of Lapti-Nek.

Nix the flute montage in favor of "Yub Nub" or perhaps a subtle blending of the two (the ruckus Ewok celebration transitions into the "saga ending" of the worlds being freed and so forth, culminating in the return to the bonfire celebration).

Restore Shaw's eyebrows to the unmasking scene. If prequel continuity is a big issue, people might object to this. But even so, something needs to be done about that really fake looking bald cap wig and the fact that his face now looks far too gray in the 2004 edition (doesn't match ESB at all or the original version).

Restore Sebastian Shaw to the Jedi Spirits scene.

Remove the ring from the Death Star explosion.

Definately delete "wesa fwee!" from the ending.

ESB fixes:

Fix the continuity error created by the "new windows" (now you see them, now you don't) on Bespin between the time Lando is showing them the tour and they get detained by Vader's men.

Restore Fett's old voice.

Correct the asteroid that has an explosion in it right before the Falcon and TIE's reach it (for no apparent reason). If it's going to be a collision it shouldn't flame up like it's a laser hit or something.

Fix the problem where Luke's saber is still on as he leaves the cave (yet you hear a saber off sound).

Restore Luke's line "You're lucky you don't taste very good" in the swamp

Fix any instances of "black R2D2 panels" in space.

Fix the transparent cockpits in the snowspeeders (for good this time)

Remove the obvious "puppet stilts" in a few shots of the AT-AT's.

Fix the saber colors, making them more consistent with the other movies.

I seem to be in a very small minority here, but I found the music changes in '97 ROTJ really worked a LOT better. I also prefer the eyebrowless Vader and Hayden as the ghost (or would if he wasn't quite so goofy, but it'd probably be possible to find alternative footage somewhere). It's not like Shaw's been entirely cut from the film, he's still there for his main unmasking scene. My first experience of the OT was in the theatrical release of the SEs and when I watched the OT later I was like "what the heck is this music supposed to be?!", especially in the finalé. It also took me several viewings to realise that the ghost next to Obi and Yoda at the end was supposed to be Anakin — he's too heavily made-up as Vader to be quickly recognisable and from a continuity standpoint he looks nothing like Anakin in the prequels.

A similar thing goes for Ian's Emperor in ESB — keep him if you can.

I never heard anyone in nearly 25 years complain about the bald cap Shaw wears, that one is new to me, I think it looks fine.

Is it feasible to keep Shaw, but "youthify" him a little like the opening of Xmen 3 (Darken his hair, smooth his jowls a little?).
Choosing either end song will always be a big annoying controversy, I suggest a "neutral" choice. There are many familiar Star Wars themes that would work well for the end, Leia's theme, Luke/Leia's theme, the extended throne room, something everybody already knows and likes?
About Boba Fett's death, maybe its possible to "steal" the later shot of Han throwing the bag at the officer in the bunker, (the guy whos says "freeze") and alter it to be Han deliberately swinging the pole at Boba Fett. In other words we need three shots to kill Fett on purpose:
1. Han's blurry POV of Fett preparing to fire at Luke (that shot is there, it just needs to be made blurry to imply it's Han's POV)
2.Han "attacks" using the aforementioned shot, it would need to be flipped, Han's vest erased, and the background changed to desert. The bag needs to be altered to be the pole that Han jabs with (it sounds impractical but that recut of Superman 2 on youtube has similar stuff)
3.Fett's backpack is struck, but with Han cropped out so you can't see he was facing the other way.
Maybe the subsequent shots of Fett flying through the air, his legs could be on fire from the burning jet fuel. He hits the barge raining flames.

Concerning Fett's voice, I agree I prefer the original voice and it could be explained that he has a scrambler in his helmet, a useful tool for a bounty hunter.

I can't recall if we actually hear Jango Fett speak whilst wearing his helmet in the PT? If he doesn't then continuity won't be an issue. If he does and somebody is tackling a PT edit, perhaps his voice could be 'scrambled' whilst wearing the helmet in the PT....

That was the other thing I meant to mention in my previous post: Fett's voice. I'm glad that Lucas replaced the original voice with Morrison's — I don't think the performance is an improvement, but I am a stickler for continuity. However it is done — whether by keeping Morrison's voice or some other means — especially if Ady's planning to eventually do the PT, the most important thing is that we have continuity between the Fetts.
