Duel of the Fates (* unfinished project *) — Page 4

Mindor references some stuff from Shatterpoint, another great Stover book that takes place during the Clone Wars and is from Mace Windu's perspective. You don't have to read that one to make Mindor make sense though, but I would. Shatterpoint is badass, and really fleshes out Windu's character.

The trailer on the DVD blew my emotions. (I honestly watched it before the actual edit due to curiosity.)

Forgive me if this has already been asked but where is the song from?

It's by Vitamin String Quartet. They did a string album of a bunch of Star Wars music. youtube, my friend.

When will the trailer be posted on Youtube?

Author

You can't post a video like that and not give us the music information. I liked it!

Haha, I've just been asked a bunch of times. It's by Vitamin String Quartet.

Will you be using the music from the trailers in the actual edit?

Will there be drastic changes to the story? What do you think the approximate length of the edit will be? I'm very interested after these trailers.

Probably around 3 hours in length. The music is pretty accurate, but there will be sound effects/dialogue in it, it's not silent.

The trailers give you a good idea of the feel of the movie.

Just cut a test of my prologue scene. Really cool. I need to do some narration tests as well.

My plan is that, in the next two weeks, to release a workprint version of the first 15 minutes or so, just to show what this is really going to be like. It won't be final, but it's narration, effects, new music, the whole thing. Think of it as a proof of concept.

What did everyone think of the Order 66 clip? Does the new music work? I feel like it wouldn't if the video was unchanged, but with the new style it feels like it should be different, I guess.

I found a big band, no chorus concert version of Duel of the Fates that is just rocking. Totally going to be my end duel music. Duel of the Fates is actually going to appear in various forms throughout the movie, building more and more until we get a big, bombastic version for the final battle.

The music worked well. The only thing that bugged me was that the video seemed sped up. But I'm sure that won't be final. I really like the Duel of the Fates idea. Can't wait to see how it works out.

It's actually not sped up at all, funny enough. That's odd.

Yep, I'm sold. Works wonderfully to me.

Only the audio work to use original voices will be tricky, but you already know that ;)

Author

haha, yeah, working on it. The sections that are mainly sound effects I might just reconstruct. I've got a better handle on how to do that now that I did it in ROTJ.

I'd be fine with the Order 66 clip, personally, except that that is one of the most overused pieces of music in fan videos, ever.

Author
Time

Hmm, I honestly wouldn't know that. I haven't heard it at all other than in that Two Towers trailer years ago. Doesn't bother me at all.

Agreed about the music.  It's incredibly overused (not necessarily in fan edits, just in general), plus putting Requiem for a Dream music in Star Wars just doesn't seem right to me.

Otherwise, it looks absolutely fantastic.

Well, the music is going to be from all different sources for the entire duration of the movie.

Incredible. The look makes the digital world real. The clips get to the heart of the emotion the way good trailers do. As much as I liked the PT (with qualms), I always loved the trailers better.

The backwards chronology of the trailer is intriguing. The story almost works better that way. Maybe not "better", but with more sophistication. Is that going to stay?

This has vast potential. I can't wait to get the big picture.

To go from your ROTJ edit to this so fast feels too good to be true.

I understand this, but whenever I hear that particular track I immediately think "Whoever picked this is lazy."  The original version was perfect for Requiem for a Dream, and the remix was perfect for the Two Towers trailer.

Every other time it's been used since then, I groan.  I'd go with something less recognizable, if I were you.
