Duel of the Fates (* unfinished project *) — Page 3

Are you incorporating Old Republic footage? Will there be alternative music?

Interesting.

Part from me says that its an easy/cheap way to play with black and whites to make something uniform and the other part says that is awesome because it will help the story or what.

I hope you will cut all the crap with the slow motion and the lightsaber smoke when its off (crap crap)

The rest will be a pleasure to see/contribute :)

I see what you mean, but I actually planned on doing the black and white well before I decided to incorporate that footage. It's a stylistic choice, and as you can see I'm tweaking every individual shot to give it a specific look.

I do have a question though. Does anyone know a method to make something look sort of hand animated? I don't know how to describe it better, but the Old Republic sections is a recounting of an old story. If I could give it a sort of water-color or painting effect, it would be really neat.

^ i wondered that too, but i think its a CG shot from the old republic. a new mmo game?

but it does look like a live action shot with the contrast/brightness effect - but its small too will it blend in with the rest of the film?

if it does then i guess you could incorporating footage from other games too, which could be pretty cool :)

You can never go home again, but i guess you can shop there.

Those trailers are the shiz. And they are positioned in a way that they don't have to blend perfectly.

You mean kind of like this:

I don't know but I do like the effect.

Edit: I believe it's rotoscoping but I don't know how difficult the process would be.

HA HA HA!

That effect will cost more money and time to Spence than finishing 50 Revisited edits together.

Good luck

"This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker. Forever."

Long before the battle of Endor, Anakin Skywalker was a Jedi Knight of the Republic. This is the story of how Darth Vader came to be, told by the Dark Lord himself. He recounts his life from gifted boy to Jedi hero to Sith villain.

The story is told in black and white, with contrast and brightness adjustments throughout to create new, striking cinematography.

The film contains all three prequels, reworked to be from Vader's perspective. Original Trilogy era bookends surround it, with a brief prologue detailing the end of the Great Sith War, a thousand years prior to the birth of Luke Skywalker. An intermission breaks up the action, allowing it to be viewed in two parts if you prefer.

New music is added throughout to create a new feel to existing scenes.

New narration, new character voices, new music. A whole new vision of Star Wars unlike anything before it. Purists beware!

The trailer is on the ROTJ Spence Final Cut DVD, but I will be posting it here tomorrow along with another test clip I made.

Ah cool!! I like the sound of this!

I did a test of Order 66 in my style with a new audio track. The dialogue/sound effects aren't present, but it gives you an idea of what the thing will look/sound like. It's definitely not final, it could end up totally different.

Those test images, especially the ROTS TPM ones, are what I'm going for throughout. These movies reworked in black and white look really stunning.

I'll upload that and the trailer later today.

This is fascinating! The images are way beyond what I expected when I read the first post-- seeing them makes me think "this has to be done!"

So question: What can you tell us about the bookends? Aside from obviously creating the best prequel story you can, the bookends seem key. They need a little magic of their own.

Mentioning the "intermission" makes me think of Lawrence of Arabia. I always loved the bookends of that film-- especially the opening title sequence. Maybe some inspiration there? It would be great if the bookends could seem like new scenes.

Big old fashioned epics are a big inspiration to me on this, so yeah, that type of feel.

I'm actually going to do a test of one of the bookends over the next few days, so I think it might be better if I just leave it till then. It's pretty damn cool to be honest, it'll be more fun to watch it.

I have so many questions-- like, I wonder what TPM looks from Vader's point of view?

Considering how thorough your ideas were on the Final ROTJ edit, I know I need to get the full picture before I jump in with any suggestions. But in concept: I get this. This is really exciting.

That novel, particularly that passage, was also a big influence on this. Matthew Stover is pretty awesome. My avatar is from the cover. Of "Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor" which is my all time favorite EU book.

Wow. This project sounds awesome. Kinda sounds like Citizen Kane mixed with Homer's writings. In other words, it'll be epic.

I before each film was released i read each novel and remember enjoying them....although revenge of the sith had a lot of references to other clone wars novels i hadnt read...or if i didnt know they existed maybe i wouldnt have noticed?? hmm....

but i might try reading them again...someone mentioned anakin having a dream of his mum in AOTC turn to glass and i dont remember that bit

I tried shadows of mindor but that also seemed to make a lot of other references to stuff i didnt know about, but maybe ill try again!
