Duel of the Fates (* unfinished project *) — Page 10

I still haven't changed my mind on it, but it's only going to get used once, it seems. In the prologue where you guys have already seen it. I think I've found a piece I like better for Order 66.

Oh good. :D

What piece?

I wish I could remember who did this, but someone moved the duel to the Trade Federation ship.  IMO it failed because it was just a cut/paste job so it was obvious the scenes didn't match.

Fall of the Republic by Blankfist.  Making that move let him shorten TPM to about 20 minutes.  I didn't find the change distracting when I first saw it.

I don't have much success with Roto so far, haha. Anybody good with that that can do it rather painlessly? I'll crop/edit him out whenever possible. He really isn't very present. That would be the best end result, to remove him entirely.

How much screen time do you need him roto'd from?

There's been some movement on this project lately. Here's the latest updates. The best news is that Jar-Jar is officially out.

Here's a test clip of the Darth Maul battle. All the music is in place, but there's no sound effects or voices yet. There will be. It's important to note that there is a point where the music drops out. That section is meant to be sound effects only.

And this is an early test of the podrace. I haven't finished removing the original music or some of the silly racer reactions. Also Jabba will go as well. I just left them in so the music would fit for now. This gives you a good idea of how that will play.

I'm going to try and get some more clips of Jar Jar removal out there after I smooth it out a little bit more.

Feedback is appreciated! And sorry I disappeared for a while. There was a combination of working constantly and being a little burnt out on fanediting. All is well now though!

Glad to hear it, Spence. This is still my most anticipated fan-edit.

I watched the clips, the first looks perfect. At least in the stage it's at.

The second I feel like would be more epic if the music was a bit louder compared to the sound effects. But, just my opinion.

Yeah, I'm still mixing that. I think you're right, the music is too quiet.

How is it going on this Spence, if you don't mind me asking? I just watched your ROTJ edit and remembered how fantastic the introductory and other clips were.

I'm currently in preproduction for an independant film I'm making which is sucking up most of my editing free time. I have pretty much completed my TPM section, which does not have a gungan in sight.

Good to see that the rumors of your death were greatly exaggerated. Great new on the indie feature. You should PM me. =)

Greatly exaggerated. In fact, I've been working on a straight up TPM edit as I've been doing Duel of the Fates. A lot of the ideas and concepts I'm working on are actually going to work well with standard prequel fanedits.

Duel of the Fates is a huge project for me, one that will take a while to complete. What may end up happening is I continue to work on that in the background while releasing TPM and re-releasing my other Star Wars edits, with fixes, addition of new deleted scenes, and HD picture quality. This includes the revised version of ROTJ. I got some pretty cool ideas at play here, and I may be able to make my perfect version of the prequels now. The one that won't change much is probably ROTS, I'm pretty happy with that as is with some little changes.

Sounds like a sound game plan, Spence! I can't wait to see the fruits of your labor.

Hey spence, have you thought of adding a bit of grain to the movies? Just to give it that old film look. It would really sell it.

Call me crazy, but I think he is adding grain... Not sure though.

Not like, Grindhouse grain. It'll be a little bit of film grain to make it look like a remastered version of a black and white movie. Think a good transfer of Casablanca or Touch of Evil.

If I grindhouse'd this, Frink would probably kill me.

lol

As long as you don't grindhouse Schindler's List* I'm good.

You'll have to do better than that. ;)
