Here is a project that I’ve had laying on my hard drive for a while,

Duck, You Sucker! (1971) Original Mono Repair.

This project is an attempt to fix the audio stuttering/abnormalities that are present on the English mono track of Duck, You Sucker (Italian Blu Ray). These stutters are mostly evident during musical sequences, and in such cases, the Italian mono was used to fix them.

In addition, the final line of the film has been converted back to English by using the audio from the old Image Laserdisc. The audio will get a tad more “fuzzy” during this scene, but I believe it sounds natural due to an explosion having just gone off.

With the above being said, I believe I was able fix all of the major issues with English mono track. However, if you find an issue please let me know (along with some time stamps for it’s occurrence) and I’ll try and fix it.

Sources:

**English 2.0 DTSHD (mono) [Italian Blu Ray]: **The base of the project. It was converted to FLAC and used only the left channel.

**Italian 2.0 DTSHD (mono) [Italian Blu Ray]: **Used to repair certain clicking/distortions present in the English mono. Again, converted to FLAC and used only the left channel.

PCM 1.0 [Image Laserdisc]: Taken from a bit perfect rip at 44hz 16bit (Lil Brutto). It was subsequently converted to 48hz.

Final Source:

FLAC 1.0 16bit 48hz lossless

Special Thanks To:

TheHutt: For providing the English and Italian dtshd tracks

Lil Brutto: For providing the Image Laserdisc track.

NOTE: This must be synced to the Itialian Blu Ray.
With that being said, does anyone know anything about the quality of the new American Blu Ray?

PM me for a download link.
Though as of current, the work is very much a first draft, so I would appreciate some feedback.

I have it. The PQ is better than the Italian one; however, the audio is still the (rather horrible) 5.1 upmix, which suffers from the following issues:

  • Dialog censorship (it seems to be based on the censored audio track - the Italian is uncensored).
  • (Reportedly) wrong music cues used for the final flashback scene (again, the Italian disc is correct here).

So a project to sync your English mono track to the MGM BD would be probably a good idea, given that the MGM has a better PQ.

There was some chatter about it being sourced from the master as the MGM DVD. Is this true?

I have the U.K. MGM DVD  Of "A fistful of Dynamite" AKA "Duck you Sucker" with the Mono soundtrack. I quote from the website dvdcompare "R2 United Kingdom- MGM Home Entertainment - No Cuts - Does not include the 3 minute flashback scene at the end." will this be of help?

The 5.1 was done in MGM's "restoration" and is with the 35mm print that has been shown only a handful of times. Those caps show the detail restored along with a heavier color palette. It looks gorgeous on the big screen and this BD loses some of the greenish cast of the DVD. The Italian BD more closely resembles old release prints and especially the old LDs for the slightly fuzzy look and being rather blown out,

Would the MGM LD be a better base source since in the LD era it was common to simply transfer the master mag track? I'll check mine out and see if it sounds more like optical.

I was told by nirbateman that the MGM LD had issues with wrong musical cues.
Does anyone know much about this?

Hi all,

I think, with the help of the 2003 German DVD, which has the english audio in lossy AC3 (no censoring, right musical cues, but without the last flashback), I have mananged to fix nearly all of the aforementioned problems.

I used it vor the entirity of the movie, except some part of the last flashback scene and John's death. So no more clicking or distortions in there. To fill the last part of the flashback I used SkySnakes fixed english track from the Italian 01 Blu ray, which he presented at the beginning of this thread.

Because the DVD is PAL, I demuxed the video of the Italion Blu ray to 25 fps, to match the speed of the english track (no pitch change, it was correct before). I didn't want to convert the english DVD audio to 24 fps (the Italian Blu runs with 24 fps, not 23,976 fps, don't know why), because I heard some distortions (very few) after that process, regardless what tools I used. Of course Skysnakes audio was sped up to 25 fps also.

I synched the pal audio with the help of Skysnakes audio. It fitted right well without much sycnhing, I only had to fix some frames here and there.I watched the entire movie yesterday and I saw no problems. There are two or three small errors in the PAL audio, which where there from the beginnung (an echo or a repetition for example). But for now I left it as it was.

So, if you want to give it a try, I can send you a link to test it yourself, if you are willing to use 25 fps. The audio file itself is presented in 2.0 DTS Mono 768 kbps, but only 16 bit, because of the lossy AC3 track, which was also only in 16 bit, of course.

I'm hoping, I don't offend anyone with that offer, especially SkySnake, but I really wanted to make it work :) And sorry for the english^^

So, does nobody want to test the audio file for errors and feedback? I would really appreciate that to correct any mistakes that happened while fixing and syncing.

Just send a PM to get the download link, if you're interested. Thx
