I too wonder at the purpose of this, if they wanted to renew Dragonball Z for a new generation, they should have literally reanimated it in the style of the opening and end credits. I don't think the 20 year old animation holds up to todays standards of cartoon, this basically is for already established fans. Anyone have the end credits song stuck in their head? I love it, especially when translated to english its just so cool!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
Gaffer Tape said:Well, I wouldn't go that far. I mean, in the sense that it might have been interesting to see the whole thing remade from the ground-up... well, yeah, that would have made more sense than what they did. But as far as the animation style, I much prefer the way the characters looked at that era of Toriyama's style than the angular, blocky looks they have in the newer animation.
Oh of course there's no arguing with that, I love the current animation and would never change it. I was just saying that in the sense of them trying to establish a new young fanbase the animation just isnt what kids these days are used to. Really this discussion will never get past the "why" question anyway lol. They could have just used the current uncut remastered footage and aired that in both Japan and USA.

Yeah, I was surprised to see they fixed Vegeta's colors, especially since they didn't fix his colors in the previous episode. But because they didn't do that, and because they didn't fix Nappa's colors... it just seems like they half-assed the whole thing.
And, yeah, the censoring is stupid too. It just looks like Goku has a bruise on his chest rather than a gaping hole. Sigh, apparently Japan has gotten has hypersensitive as America about content over the past 20 years. We lost baby Goku's tackle as well.

remember: Sunday morning slot compared to Wednesday nights (original slot for DB-throughout). Also, would be neat if Nappa stayed that way; nice set of colors for him, and would make it more obvious that he's at a lower level than Vegeta.
Where this really needs it is the Freeza saga, can't wait till it's there!
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
I'm interested to see how they do snake way and Goku/Z Fighters training, since that was filler galore.
Yeah, and it was some of my favorite filler, to be honest. I rarely make this complaint, but the Saiya-jin saga in the manga seems so empty, and the filler actually did quite a bit to flesh out both the story and especially the characters who we're re-introduced to after five years of peace.

They are releasing DragonBall KAI in Blu RAY in japan sometime this year.
I imagine that since DragonBall was hand animated on cels and shot on film that is the reason it can be on blu ray. So they most likely went back to the original negative or First generation IP.
Not sure if DragonBall was shot on 16mm or 35mm.
Now in the new version they changed the coloring right, did new edits and voice work and new cgi?
I personally being a purist would prefer the original version uncut on blu ray in 4:3 and not fake widescreen.
I also wish the harmony gold dub would surface in someones collection no matter how bad it is,lol.
