Does this make sense?

OK, we all know about the change in Empire with the Emperor and the new dialogue. Now, earlier in the movie, when the imperials receive the message from the probe droid about Hoth, Vader says, "...and I'm sure Skywalker is with them." Jump ahead to the new scene.
Emperor, "We have a new enemy...I have no doubt this is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker."
Vader, "How is that possable?"
Emperor, " Search your feelings Lord Vader."
Vader, "He is just a boy. Obi-wan can no longer help him."

So, at first, Vader is looking for Luke. Then, when the emperor tells Vader of the 'new enemy', Vader seems to be clueless. Then, in the next sentence, he is obviously talking about Luke. (I hope you can follow me on this) To me, that whole new scene makes no sense! Does anyone else have another take on this? Or is this just another example of how Lucas screwed up, again?!

Obviously Vader will know of Luke beforehand...he has a whole secret evil plan of his own, remember (join me, you can destroy the Emperor) ?

the problem is that it *is* confusing now. before, we all knew that vader had some ideas of his own... but now with GL trying to spell it all out for us, it's just muddled and crap. very crap.

the dialogue in the original was great, it didn't need to be spelled out for the morons, I was 10 when i first saw Empire on it's first release and I managed to work it out, if Empire is supposedly set 3 years after A New Hope, then the all-seeing ,all-knowing Emperor is a little slow in catching on , I assumed he'd found about Skywalker from being able to read Vaders mind/feelings anyway, long after Vader had worked it out for himself.

i always thought the emperor wanted luke to "strike him down" so that he could grow stronger.. like obi-won.

i guess i never really got that more powerful after you die thing. or is that only for the good guys? i'm sure this is explained to death in the EU.

maybe it could be read a few different ways. like any piece of art.

poor GL is taking the art out of the films.

I hate this new dialogue. First, it's stupid. If they're trying to play it so that Vader has been searching for Skywalker "secretly" and so is playing dumb when the emperor calls, then Vader is the worst secret keeper in the Galaxy. He's ordering his troops to find Skywalker! He says skywalker by name! Does he think the Emperor doesn't glance at the field reports coming in every so often? Second, the use of the line "search your feelings" just ruins the same line when Vader uses it later. Way to go Vader you unoriginal muthfudger. This New Dialogue is pure ass.

I fear that this new dialogue is going to relate to Revenge of the Sith. Vader is going to willingly allow his son to be taken from him, rather than kill baby Luke and/or his mother. It will be implied that Vader hid this info from the Emperor. Which will make Vader slightly more cuddly to anyone introduced to him as "Annie."

Oh sweet Jeebus, that sounds stupid enough for Lucas to do. I've always argued that vader couldn't know about his kids, because the Emperor and vader would have been hunting for them ever since. If this is in fact what he has in mind, it's some pretty weak sauce. Vader can pluck the knowledge of Leia's existence from Luke's mind (which right there tells us vader doesn't know about Leia) but the Emperor can't wrazzle the knowledge of Vader's kid/s out of him? I really hope that's not the direction this takes.

What he said!!

Lucas is obviously trying to make the 2004 OT versions so simplistic that they can be understood by a brain-dead chimpanzee, and he's succeeding.

I BELIEVE THIS IS VADER FEIGNING IGNORANCE OF LUKE'S EXISTENCE IN ORDER TO KEEP THE EMPEROR FROM SUSPECTING VADER'S PLANS.

I think that's about the only way this scene makes sense now. To take it one step further ... when the Emperor says "Search your feelings, Lord Vader, and you will know it to be true," maybe he's actually mocking Vader's attempt to hide the truth from him ... so he throws Vader's own words from the future at him, to show that he has already foreseen the whole Luke-Vader encounter.

OK, I know that's a fairly ridiculous stretch, but I thought it was fun to think about!

Oh, come on. Thats just ridiculous! In the very next sentence Vader says he is just a boy, Obi-wan can no longer help him. Proving that Vader knew of him all along. The whole thing just makes no sence. Lucas fucked up! The Emperor is not stupid. Nor is Vader.

Trying to join the stupidity of the Prequels to the classic Original Trilogy will drive you insane.. just like George Lucas.

Just step away and let the fanboys work their peabrains trying and figure it out.

I am tired of having to come up with explanations for this new scene and that new dialogue. THE MOVIES WERE FINE THE WAY THEY WERE!

Holy christ. I'm listening to the ROTJ commentary...the first one I've listened to. All Lucas does is talk about how unhappy he is with the movies!! What is his fucking problem? Dennis Muren is the only sane one!

The audio commentaries are crap! My favorite is in ESB, when the new scene with the Emperor comes in, Ben Burt just babbles about the same old crap he always does! And again in Jedi, at the end with Hayden, NOTHING! What a cop-out!

It's like they have done it on porpouse, right? Like: "Oh, oh, here comes a controversial scene, let's talk about how Alec Guiness loved acting in Star Wars."
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Essentially all Lucas does is blab about how it would've been easier with digital technology, blah blah blah. And also how he's not satisfied with scenes and how they could've been better and how he contemplated adding more crap to scenes. He really is a pitiable man.

Hey, hey, no felatio around here, please. No one in hiw own mind would even consider the possibility of giving oral pleasure to George Lucas.

The fact remains that this new dialogue makes no sense now ... even if George tries to explain it away in a lousy prequel, the scene doesn't make sense.

I anticipate that half of Revenge of the Sith's runtime will be spent making sense out of all the dippy inconsistencies between the prequels and the real trilogy ... C3PO's memory wipe, Ben's memory wipe (because he clearly forgot about how R2D2 saved his life), the twins, the ghostly visions of deceased Jedi, the Emperor's lack of knowledge of Luke. I think he's going to try to draw a link between Chewbacca and Ben ... ugh, I wish it was over so I could start forgetting the prequels exist.
