Does anyone here still like Star Wars?

Author

Been reading some stuff on this site for a while now. Never seen anything that looks like someone likes Star Wars. So, do you even care anymore? Or is it just habit to hate Star Wars now? Just curious.

I say never release the originals. Keep the fans talking about something.

I love the OOT.  That's why I'm here.

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

I care, therefore I am.

And keep reading. Star Wars covers a broad spectrum of things these days.

Where were you in '77?

Star Wars is not only my favourite movie, it's something I have dedicated more of my life to than anything else on the planet. It led to me having a career in the film industry, writing an entire book, running two high-profile websites simultaneously, and spending literally thousands of hours discussing the films, while also being the number one source of financial investment in my 27 years on planet earth. "Like" is an understatement.

This reeks of a troll. Do you really think we all just have nothing better to do with our lives? Or do you just resent that George Lucas has created a situation in which his actions are held accountable by some members of the public? Because let me assure you, not a single person here wants to be on this forum, we'd rather be watching the bloody films on our blu-ray players.

I'm guessing sock of a disgruntled former poster. Twooffour, perhaps?

I will always enjoy the UOT. As a kid in the 90s I also enjoyed various SW-related entertainment like some of the EU comics/novels, video games, customizable card game, etc. Every now and then I'll look back fondly on enjoying those activities

However, I've come to fucking hate the Star Wars franchise. By that, I mean all the garbage with the prequels, OT changes, rehashing storylines in the EU, merchandising, Lucas whining and telling his fans to fuck off, apologists being apologists, etc. SW is incredibly played out, and it depresses me that people still give Lucas money for the same crap over and over because it's wrapped in a slightly different package.

Darth Maul resurrected in the cartoon? Gee, does that have anything to do with the 3D release of The Phantom Menace? How many people have fallen for that gimmick? Lucas is cunning, but he won't get another dime from me. Hell, I don't know if I'd even buy the UOT on BD, if hell froze over and that happened. Doing so would justify everything that has preceded it.

tl;dr - love the UOT and some pre-special edition stuff. Fuck the rest.

“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”

Seriously.

So many threads cover elements we liked in the OT, in the PT, and edit discussions bring up passionate arguments about what we love.

Perhaps this is a question you would like to ask George Lucas. He is the one trying to purge the original movies while constantly altering their remains.

The blue elephant in the room.

Still love Star Wars, just not in love with it.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

I'm a fan of "The Adventures of Luke Skywalker"; the original trilogy before it became part of "The Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker". Most of us are just upset with what the franchise has become: cell phone or car commercials, Chewbacca on Glee, half-assed 3D conversions, and so on.

People are upset because the source of the franchise have been put in the trash by its creator. If you don't feel strongly about that, then I guess you do not like Star Wars as much as people on this site does.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

If you are asking do we like everything with the words STAR and WARS pasted over it the answer is clearly no.

I think there are probably a few people on the planet who do but they are the sort of people who, if they had turned a different fork in the road of their life, would be willing to blow up children in the name of peace and love.

What Star Wars people do like is a broad church on here.

But the general consensus is they would like to be able to legally own a restored version of the original three films on the home cinema format of the time.

So from that you can probably infer a liking of at least one of those three films to the extent that forum users have demonstrated a willingness to spend some of their finite lifespan signing up to this site and posting here.

Actually, the OP made me stop and think. I certainly don't love it the way I used to. And l'm definitely with georgec in hating the franchise and refusing to spend another dime on it. I've come to the point where I really don't care anymore - I have my cruddy GOUT versions (which I watch more and more infrequently) and I guess I'll just live with them. It's too bad that a culturally important piece of art has been destroyed and suppressed, but whatever. They are only movies.

I guess I'm at the point where it is more enjoyable to rip into the garbage than to praise the gold - not a good spot to be in.

Sorry guys, GL has just worn me down.

I think I'll go over to the bioware forums now and bitch about how they ruined the Dragon Age series with Dragon Age 2. At least it took 22 years to destroy Star Wars...

If we didn't love it, we wouldn't be trying to save it.  Look at those callous bastards over at TFN, they seem completely indifferent to or excited about the demise of Star Wars.  I'm not actually sure I've read a single post here from someone who appears to hate Star Wars.  Are you sure you're on the right forum?

Damn, didn't mean to piss off so many people. In the past five seconds I've read that I don't love Star Wars, I am a troll, a former poster, and that I haven't read enough; though that last one is probably true.

What I meant to say was, my first impression of the forum has been people complaining. Every thread has just been "George Lucas takes a dump on Star Wars fans" or "What pissed you off most about Blu-Ray release and any SE?"

I say never release the originals. Keep the fans talking about something.

Despite what George might say he isn't Star Wars.

You can like Star Wars and not like what he is doing with it with ease.

I think we all like Star Wars to varying degrees. Our perception of George Lucas is a bit more complicated though...

All I really want is each film as it was originally seen and heard in theaters; no fixes, corrections, "improvements" or modifications necessary.

Even our definition of "Star Wars" varies.  Mine is a trilogy of three films from 1977-1983.  If pushed, I will expand my definition to include the Holiday Special and some Ewok movies.

The Special Editions aren't Star Wars, they are impostors.  The prequels aren't Star Wars either, they are relatives of the impostors trying to tag along for the ride.  As such, hating them doesn't even remotely dampen my enthusiasm for Star Wars, because they are unrelated.

Very much this.

Hey, I wasn't born until 1984 either.  Too young to have seen them in the theatres, unfortunately, but old enough to have watched them at home many times before the SE's came along.  Too young to have seen GL's transgressions for what they really were until I grew up, but old enough to have a strong memory of what was to fall back on once the disillusionment set in.  Both old and young enough to love the real Star Wars for all time.
