I see no contradiction in Vader preventing Luke from destroying the Emperor. Maybe because I read the novel first, which provides an excellent explanation: for Luke to kill the Emperor at that moment would NOT secure his fealty to the dark side at that point in time. He wasn't yet ready for it, and there would be a significant chance he could return to his friends and remain loyal to the Rebellion. He would need further training from both Vader and the Emperor before his skills and loyalty to the dark side were enough that killing the Emperor would be entirely the result of his own ambition (and hopefully, loyalty to Vader) and not a simple righteous rage. This is entirely accordance with the way Vader acts towards Luke in ESB, as well.
