Does George actually like the films he makes?

I've been wondering about this.

He seems to be unable to get a movie finished before it hits theatres, resulting in edits after the film's release, he seems to have rushed the 2004 DVD releases of the 'original' Star Wars Trilogy...and he seems obsessed with putting CGI effects in older films, like in RotJ.

Does anyone know what the hell happened to this guy over the years? I used to know him as the mastermind behind the original Star Wars trilogy and loved him for that, but now I wouldn't be surprised if he hypnotised himself years ago into thinking that the opinions of those watching his films don't matter as long as he's content with his CGI fragments.

Yoda hates him for not giving him an exile scene in the theatrical version of RotS, Darth Vader hates him for giving him a pink/orange light sabre in the 2004 DVDs, Han Solo hates him for letting Greedo shoot first, and Luke doesn't seem to care about having a light sabre that seems to be able to change into various colours in STAR WARS 2004.

Somehow I think the effect that the original Star Wars had for the special effects industry backfired on Lucas' mind.

I have a bad feeling about this...

I think Lucas would tell you that he is "like-a-painter-who-never-feel-that-a-work-is-finished-and-retouch-it-over-the-years".

But a painter usualy don't sell his work before it's done of course...

(sorry for my bad english on this post, hope I made myself clear)

Nah, I understood clearly and get what you mean.

Actually, Lucas fully intended to give Darth Vader a pink lightsabre back in '77. It was all part of the original vision for Star Wars. Regrettably, they just didn't have the funds to pinken Vader's Sabre back then, so it has to be done now.

While I agree with your original post and have often wondered the same thing myself, I do just want to add that, personally, I'm glad that Yoda's exile scene was cut from the movie.  One of the few good decisions in a sea of crap.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Well, I guess that still leaves the people to wonder why the hell Yoda was in a place such as Dagobah.

This could still be used as a bit of a surprise effect.

But it still doesn't explain why he's in Dagobah.  The scene just shows him landing there.

The only positive side of this syndrom is that since Lucas must realize his impending mortality he'll get the final versions of the movies out in 3D sooner rather than later, hopefully by the end of the next year like I've been predicting.

I mean, at the King Kong premiere in December of '05 a reporter asked him if he missed Star Wars and he replied "no, I don't." At this point it's just a matter of practical business, but I get the feeling (and this is just my opinion) that the money-making possibilites of just the six movies is starting to decline, and the 3D and the blu-ray might as well be the last hoorah.

Really, even putting aside whether or not we'll finally get the good OOT, I just hope he stops tinkering with the revised version (of the revised version) of the movies and just says "this is the definitive, six-part saga that I've been talking about for years despite the fact that I still sell the dvd's in seperate trilogy boxes." Obviously I hope LFL finally comes to their senses for the blu-ray and throws in the original versions of the six movies in addition to the final drafts, but I think if anything we can rest assured that the tinkering is coming to an end.

Maybe, but I have a feeling we can't be sure yet.

I think he likes his films, but is never "satisfied" with the result. THX-1138 even has a CGI enhanced "Special Edition"! THX was phenominal! Why mess with it? If you have a few nags, it is understandable to patch them-yet not detracting from the overall experience. If only George followed Ridley Scott's lead. Scott enhanced Blade Runner for the final cut, but didn't feel the need to perfect every little thing. i kinda get this feeling that Star wars has become a sort of chore for him. It doesn't ever stop, thus there is a sense of: "Well, while I'm here I guess I better replace Han with a fish-man."

VADER!? WHERE THE HELL IS MY MOCHA LATTE? -Palpy on a very bad day.

Watch the film.  Yoda says that he is going into exile.

That's some bad hat, Harry
