Correct. I never said I didn't. I was merely admiring Gaffer Tape for staying true to his film preservation beliefs.

still you do want the ot yoda replaced and not the tpm yoda correct?

cg yoda in the pt looks perfect seeing how sterile the environment is, but would really stick out in the ot, the same with all the cg thats already in there

i just wish we had seen more earthy environments in the pt. everything was cg sterilized

BTW, is anyone here actually against a CG Yoda for TPM?

I wish he would left both sets of films alone and just keep them at the thetarical versions or if he has to change both sets of movies give the fan the choice of his altered version and the thetarical release.

Back on topic, it seems like what I feared was true- that very little is anything was mentioned in the commentaries regarding he 'tweaks' and changes. I honestly would really like to hear from George Lucas the *filmmaker* WHY he (again honestly) felt certain scenes were needed. And not just things like the Hayden Force ghost- I mean things like the extra shot of Vader going to his shuttle, etc. Basically putting his mouth where our money is as it were.

For that matter I doubt *most* SE DVD releases can truly justify newly included scenes for any other reason than to get people to buy more DVDs. I acknowledge this is the fundamental nature of the film business but I'd personally rather buy a multi-DVD set that has extensive behind the scenes documentaries than an 'unrated' or 'director's cut' which has merely 20 seconds of footage inserted or a version put together by the studio despite the director having been happy with the theatrical version for several years.

I dont think Lucas feels the need to have to justify every change he made.

I dont think you guys even realise how much is changed since the first release. Hell, as early as opening day on May 25th, 1977, Lucas was in the studio with Mark Hamill tweaking the film! If he pointed out every change in teh commentary thats all teh commentary would be. Personally i dont really care--some changes i like, some i dont, and regardless no one can do anything about it so we might as hear about more interesting matters (such as the use of subtitles in Greedos scene, which was far more eventful in its day than changing greedo to fire first--or simultaneously or whatever it is now).

And for the record i am all for a CGI OT Yoda as well--as long as the OOT is available.

I at least am not asking for a JUSTIFICATION at all. What I'm curious about is the reasoning and thought process of a filmmaker. Its a field I have great interest in and as someone who has edited a work or two I'm fascinated by the decisions that are made from earliest script to the 'final' edit. I've heard many wonderful commentaries from directors who will be happy to say 'by doing this I make the audience feel this way' or some such. That's how we learn, or at least that's how I learn. And that was the point of this thread or at least I had hoped.

And trust me- I've bought some stinker films to hear HOW they were made.

Also I think you'll find most here are OVERLY aware of how many this have been changed over the years- probably more than many film scholars at least when it comes to the films of George Lucas.

From listening to him when he has discussed changes, he just talks as if it's no big deal to him. The big difference between the POV of him and that of SW fans is that the OOT is not very holy to him. To him, they're just some films he made that, in his eyes, were far from perfect.

and yet he has ruined them with the changes and he's that fixated on getting it right.
