"Does Anyone Have The Old Original Theater Bootleg '77 Tape?"

been looking for this for a long time

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I sent JackLucas here a copy of the tape I have on DVD. He says he'll send it to whoever needs it.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

The differences between this and the released version are so small they're practically insignificant...

Now, if someone broke into the vaults hidden under the Lucas Ranch nuclear reactor and stole the Lost Cut, the master of Holiday Special, and heaven knows what else that's hidden in there (perhaps that legendary alternate scene in which Yoda is revealed to be Vader's father (*)) - that would be something...

Maybe not a lot of difference video-wise, but the audio differences are worth hearing, in my opinion.

Yup. There are a few of them. If you want to recreate the old bootleg tape experience, crank up the tone and contrast on the TV, throw the tv down the stairs and then watch the EditDroid version without your glasses or contacts.

I think it should be quite obvious that this is more of a nostalgiac aquisition rather than one to show off your A/V set up or to use for archival reference as far as differences picture wise. And as far as historical SW significance (other than the obvious mono soundtrack treasure), it is one of those things that old timers like myself remember as a "I know a guy who knew a guy whose uncle had a buddy who knew someone who had seen this at someone else's house one time back in '78". In the 80's it was one of the holy grail's of SW collecting. I heard about it for the first time in the early 80's and have wanted it ever since. It will sit on the shelf proudly with the other 40-odd SW discs in the collection.

Exactly, and once you actually see it, you'll realize how true this is (although that goes double for the Holiday Special, though more so for the content rather than the quality of the transfer. )

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

After some disc issues (thanks for the reship, Rev) and personal issues (divorces SUCK) I have gotten these out to those that requested them from me. That includes (but is not limited to): russs15 (thanks again so much for the discs you sent me!), Trooperman (looking forward to getting your edit when it is done), skyjedi, bob23 (thanks for the discs you sent) and codester. I sent it to some others, but all I had was addresses, not board names.

Thanks again so much to ReverandBeastly for speaking up that he had this and MeBeJedi for doing the transfer. Again, this is a purely nostalgiac disc, but I know others would be interested in the future as it has been a part of many old conversations of mine regarding SW history. So hopefully this can get spread and paid forward to anyone that comes around later.

I'm confused - is the tape being sent around, or my transfer? (I don't mind, I'm just curious.)

"If you want to recreate the old bootleg tape experience, crank up the tone and contrast on the TV, throw the tv down the stairs and then watch the EditDroid version without your glasses or contacts. "

Ain't THAT the truth!

It is a very badly cropped telecine with the original 1977 mono soundtrack. I am a happy little boy to now finally have a copy of this in my collection after searching for it for almost twenty years.

Thanks again, Rev!

As I said before, I have sent it out to enough people that I would hope that someone could pay it forward.

I will be happy to send out a couple of copies in and around the UK when I get my copy.

The first 2 PM's with a valid e-mail address included gets those two copies. I would rather swap personal address details via e-mail and not PM's.
