The Twin Dilemma is considered 1 of the worst stories of the shows history and I wondered, how could it be made better? There was no point doing a proper fanfix because Whoflix had already done it, but there was something that I could do.
In the early 90’s, the infamous fan film production company known as BBV, made a series called the Stranger. The 1st 3 installments were about the Stranger and Miss Brown (played by Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant) going about adventures in time and space. A.K.A. copyright-free 6th Doctor and Peri Brown.
Anyway, in the behind the scenes features, it’s mentioned that the writer was inspired by the twin dilemma and ‘what if the Doctor really did become a hermint?’
And since this is a fan-edit and I’m not making any money off of it, I don’t need to worry about copyright shenannigans, so, I decided to put them together.
1st thing I did was put a recap of the 5th doctor’s regenartion at the end of the previous story ‘Caves of Androzani’ and then combined all the early Tardis scenes from the Twin Dilemma (sometimes using simple cuts, and other times using footage of the Tardis travelling in time and space from other stories). The trickest section was when the Doctor presses the button to cause the Tardis to go crazy, so I used some footage from ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ to make it work.
The Doctor then exits the Tardis using footage from later in the story and then after a title screen transistion, we go to the Stranger (and yes, Peri has changed accents, nothing I can do about that).
The only real changes from then (apart from new opening and closing credits), is some effects a friend of mine did. There’s different footage on the Tardis scanner and there’s a few new effects.
It might not be a great story, but at least it’s a lot more bearable than the Twin Dilemma.
