I disagree, as long as its down right. We're not talking about just having a stockpile of weapons for citizens to sift through, most lawmakers are intelligent enough to educate people as well. Look at Switzerland; their mandatory firearm law has made it one of the safest and peaceful countries in Europe.

It's not a question of what would be "Safest and most peaceful," it's a question of the government imposing unconstitutional influence over the citizenry. Owning a firearm is a right, it is not a requirement. They should not be able to force mandatory firearm ownership any more than they should be able to force the entire populace to practice Islam.
And it isn't backwoods as one would think. It is a suburb of Atlanta.
I thought you would show me one of those old laws that told people should have a gun to keep the King of England away or something... I'm amazed this sort of law was passed on a city that based on it's population and location dosen't seem to be handling with crime problems as other cities around the world. Reminds me of Quake 3 Arena Deathmatch for some reason...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Well, according to Wikipedia, it was an ordinance so its perfectly legal for them to pass it. And it does say that there is no penalty for violation, and no one has ever been charged with violating it. It seemed to me more that it was in reaction to another law that was passed, and not something that was expected to be taken seriousy (sort of like all of those joke laws that get passed when law makers are bored).
That was a stupid thing to say sean. In this century, You have to defend yourself. Nice Machete Ripplin. My father has a Filipino butterfly knife that can cut paper superbly.

Not everyone would agree with the above opinion. People should have the right to do whatever they want (within reason that is). If you don't want a gun, so be it.

I did not say not wanting a gun is bad, just now, with the times so chaotic, people breaking in more than usual, its almost guaranteed to happen, so why not be prepared?

Where are you from? In the US, burglaries have fallen 26% in the past ten years.
Yes, but in the age where people can get burglarized (not just home invasion) and in a time people are becoming more desperate, everywhere ESPECIALLY big cities, where it only costs $80-100$ for a 9mm pistol off the street, one needs to be careful.
