This could be good news, as they would then own SW '77.
Is it good news? Difficult to say. Always in motion, is the future.
Seeking only the most natural looking colors for Star Wars '77
OT Fans: “If you want to release the unaltered OT, you need to talk to 20th Century Fox.”
Kennedy: “Why is that?”
OT Fans: “Because Fox still owns the rights to 1977’s original Star Wars. So you have to finalise an extraordinary complex agreement in which you…”
Disney: “We bought 20th Century Fox.”
[Everybody turns and stares at them. Disney just shrugs]
Disney: “It seemed neater.”
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Whoa. That would also get X-Men and The Fantastic Four movie rights sorted out. I don’t think the world can survive another bad “we’re cranking this out just so we don’t lose the movie rights” FF film.
Where were you in '77?
They’re saying the same thing here. On\off

I’m not sure it’s worth the kind of monopoly this could create, if it’s even allowed.

My thoughts.

I love Despecialized and I have watched Despecialized for the last two years but I want Disney to release the original versions so bad
I’m kind of shocked that some of you guys are more excited by the prospect of this allowing Star Wars/Superhero movie rights to be cleaned up rather than horrified at how this shows that it’s within Disney’s power to own more than half of the studios producing mainstream movies. Hopefully this won’t fall through.

It’s definitely a concern of mine, but the prospect of an official release of the OUT is clouding my judgement.
I think we’re overestimating how much 20th Century Fox has to do with the OUT, at least past 2020.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Disney is the Borg. I’ve made peace with that. 😉
Now if Comcast was to sell them Universal, then I’d be worried. I would think it would be business as usual at Fox is this goes through. I don’t think they’re going to suddenly stop making R rated action films or anything.
Unless one owns a crap load of stock in either company, we really don’t have any control over this.

Getting Fox out of the way denies the naysayers an argument.
people here do not know jack shit about business…this is not even close to a legal monopoly. They wont own a majority share of the market because universal and warners along with others wont let them.
they will never buy DC comics or warner bros or universal or even the inevitable newcomers
someone got up on the wrong side of the bacta tank this morning.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
Inevitable newcomers? I don’t think so. They become the slightest threat to the established corporations and they’ll be bought up. There isn’t going to be any new company on the level of Warners or Disney, at least not from the ground up.
Nothing short of the complete and utter collapse of Hollywood will bring Disney down to size and allow newcomers to ascend.

Disney’s bigger than that.

Woah calm down there Bob
Not that it really matters (as evidenced most recently by Thor: Ragnarok), but I wonder why Universal will always own the release rights to any future standalone Hulk film.
Did Marvel completely sell them off at some point?
Is it different from the situation with F4 where Fox needs to make another movie every several years?

I found this article on Hulk that should help:
Looks like Universal lost the character by not making Ang Lee’s Hulk 2, but they managed to keep the right of first refusal for distribution, which means Disney would share some profits with Universal on MCU Hulk standalone movies.
As opposed to Fox, which keeps making F4 movies to keep the characters.

lol same here
also I can’t see how this gets approved. There are only six movie companies right now…If I were in charge of merging I wouldn’t let them get merged!

This. Finally getting the OOT would be worth damn near anything.

Unless my paranoid belief that George put a stipulation prevent its release into the contract or his will proves correct.
