LOL, georgec!

I'd totally watch that; no kidding!

I might be the only ROTJ-is-my-favorite guy here, however... -_-

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

You're not the only one. ;)

It was always my favorite, and not just for nostalgia. Luke's story in ROTJ is wonderful. The scenes on the Death Star with the Emperor are top notch. There are flaws, but the emotional pull of the film is the best of the series for me. And the climax is my favorite in all of film. So epic.

While many were saying, "Disney can't do worse than Lucas," I was quietly thinking, "Actually, they can."

I'd take that bet.  While Disney may still begin with terrible concepts, and maybe even follow through with terrible writing, you just can't deliver performances that wooden and lifeless without George Lucas directing.  Worst case scenario, a Disney-produced Star Wars film without significant Lucas interference would be about as bad as Alien vs. Predator.  That is, you may still want to claw your eyes out while watching it, but unlike ROTS, you won't still regret choosing not to for years afterward.

I've seen rumors that At Stars' End is going to be the basis for the Han Solo film. Anchorhead will be pleased :P

Straight-up rumor though. Just to clarify. Hm, I wonder if we should start a separate rumor thread...

It seems legit. Disney confirmed spinoffs yesterday, and multiple sites not named "Ain't It Cool News" have run the story about Boba and Han.

Disney, just cast Shia Lebeouf as young Han and get it the f*ck over with.

What about that fellow from the Young Indy series? He's about the right age now to play Han in his prime.

Where were you in '77?

Same guy who played Young Indy playing Young Han?

Worlds are shrinking...

But in all honesty Flanery is 47 years old. Hardly young.

Actors don't always play characters close to their real life chronological ages though. And Mr. Flannery looks pretty darn good for 47...

How old is Han supposed to be in the Daley books?

I'm not suggesting that actors must play characters the exact same age as them.

Ford was 34 when he first played Han. If they're doing a "Young Han", then I'd figure they're going for Han to be in his 20s. While someone in their 30s can pass for being in their 20s, I don't think a 47-year-old can pull off being less than 30, nor do I think they should be expected to do so.

There is only one person fit to play Han in his prime and that's Harrison Ford.

Do the Young Han Chronicles if you must or The Aged Han Yelling At Cloud Adventures but Han as an adult should not be recast.

Write around him.

Do a series set on his home world with people mentioning him or something.

What I really don't want to see is a standalone movie about one of the PT-only characters. That would truly suck. Hard.

Yes, because seeing our beloved characters such as Vader or Boba Fett as annoying kids worked quite well. :P

(below not directed at Bingo's post)

Here's an idea - COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW. The EU filled in all the story gaps on classic characters that SW fans craved for 30 years. It's f**king time to move on and realize it's possible that more than 10 interesting characters exist in the SW galaxy.

I don't care how pessimistic I sound. Every announcement just shows me that Disney is going to milk this crap dry, then do it again every 10 years.I don't care if these are just spinoffs. Instead of half assing a few spinoffs, why not collect resources into a brand new trilogy, then spring everything off that?

Disney and Kennedy are taking the lazy approach. If anybody thinks George treated the franchise poorly, watered it down, ruined the mystique of classic characters, and catered too much to children, I can't wait to see what they'll think in a few years of Disney and Kennedy.

Flame on!

It's entirely possible for these spinoffs to be animated films? The door has opened a tiny crack for the Daley books to be adapted. If Harrison doesn't want to at least voice Han, Perry King is still around. :)

IGN Interviews Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg on Star Wars: Episode VII and Standalone Films

My favorite bit:

Kasdan: I was pleased that there would be new ones, that there was a chance to capture some of the spirit of the original trilogy that I’d worked on. I thought there’s an audience out there -- my grandchildren, lots of original Star Wars people -- and there always will be. It’s only good that we try to do some more great ones.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

‘Star Wars’ writer Lawrence Kasdan wants spinoff film to ‘start fresh’

Kasdan would not confirm reports that the spinoff films would center on iconic characters Han Solo, Boba Fett or Yoda, but said he wasn’t focusing on his previous scripts or on the extended “Star Wars” universe in his approach to writing the new film.

“I’m trying to start fresh,” he said. “There are certain pleasures that we think the saga can bring to people that they’ve been missing, and we’re hoping to bring them that, and at the same time, have them feel that it’s all new.”

....

Asked if it would be strange to work on “Star Wars” without George Lucas at the helm, Kasdan was quick to point out that it was Lucas who recruited him to the project last fall.

“George sort of brought me into this part of it, and he’s stepping back from the company,” he said. “He’s sort of given his blessing to everybody, and he’ll be there if you need him. I think everyone’s interested to see where this can go. It’s been some very different places over 30 years …. I think with J.J., we’ll get something entirely new.”

....

“The ones I worked on were a long time ago, and they had a slightly different feeling than the ones that followed,” he said. “The first three, ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Empire’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ are all sort of more about people than the ones that followed. ‘Empire’ appeals to people, I think, because it’s the second act of a three-act play, and everything sort of goes to hell during the movie. And when you leave, everyone is in trouble, and that is the best part of the story to write. And people responded to it. Irvin Kershner was a completely different kind of director than George, so the movie’s much darker than the first ‘Star Wars.’ It’s more edgy.”

Despite its popularity and acclaim, “Empire” is not his favorite installment in the series.

“I must say, I think that the great, great film is the first ‘Star Wars,’ ” he said. “I do. It’s hilarious, and it changed movies forever.”

Lots of good bits in that article.

Awesome interviews, Tobes! I wasn't sure about Kinberg before this, but he seems to have his heart in the right place, and his idolization of Kasdan can only serve him.
