Discussion: Your most prized star wars collectible

 (Edited)

Just think it would be interesting to see what peoples most prized SW collectible is. Basically the item(s) that you just take the most pride in owning, the rarest item in your collection, something with personal significance and anything else that just stands out in your collection for whatever reason. Also be nice to share a few words on why its so beloved and maybe how you came to aquire it.

Well to start it off, I dont think i really have any one thing that i would deem as the end all of my collection, I do have a few items that I take pride in owning.

the main one being the complete run of the Marvel Star Wars comics. This was something i decided i needed/wanted about 6 years ago. At the time I had none of the comics. I think the reason I like it so much is because i used to amaturely collect comics, im a huge star wars fan, and being intrigued by the whole scenerio of how marvel originally had the rights to the comics before dark horse took it over I just felt it was something I needed to add to my collection.

and another item i just remember is a pair of old darth vader rollerskates from back in the day. their just old and part of the original merchandising run and in my opinion a pretty unique piece of my collection.

I have an old Star Wars kids watch. Blue band with artwork of C-3PO and R2-D2 on the face of it.

I also have a keychain that is a series of four highly laminated plastic cards riveted in one corner (with the chain coming off this rivet). You can spin the cards on the rivet to unveil one of the cards below. Each of the cards has an image from Return of the Jedi on the front and back. Never seen anything like it before.

My last thing is a Yoda pendant on a necklace still carded on an original (albeit beat to hell) ROTJ red card.

I love these three things.

I dont really have anything that stands out as especially collectible. But id have to say my favorite items are my micro-machines. I can pretty much stage the Death Star II Space battle. (Loads of doubles ).
I especially like the 17 A-Wings I have, some from the battle damaged set, but most were just standard that I bought a bunch of. I never really cared for B-Wings, though I have a few. And my second favorite from the collection would be my Mon Calamari cruiser.

Blue Snaggletooth. Bought from my next-door neighbor at a yard sale when we were kids for a buck.

Mine is more of a whole, with no real individual taking center stage. I have a huge recent action figure collection. There's my Luke Skywalker Lightsaber that's missing half the blade thanks to the numerous battles it was in for Episode I. I have a Star Wars - The Power of Myth book that I bought at the Air and Spave Museum that I had autographed by David Prowse. I also have my father's Star Wars LP and the Story of Star Wars LP and The 83 RotJ cassette.I have a lot, but mine collection's rather small in comparison. I also have a couple marvel comics of my dads, beat up as they are.

Made for IE Forum's Episode III theme month - May 2005.

heh, yeah, i have every figure up to probably about wave 3 or 4 from episode I.

This and klingon_jedi's post reminded me of a few nice mistakes i have. I have the r2 freeze frame with imperial trash compacter and death star trash compacter (i think the imperial was the one they changed)

I also have a darth sidious figure that the sticker with his name on it is on upside down.

I unfortunatly dont have (or know the location of) any of the figures me and my older brother had from the original run (they were all opened). we just had like artoo, vader, luke, jabba and ones like that. And wicket...i dont care what people say, i liked the ewoks...i actually have 3 of the stuffed animal ewoks from the early 80's Wicket and the mother and baby

I sold off most of my newer figures. Just held on to my originals of which I have all but five for the collection.

I stopped collecting after Episode I, so I only have a handful of those figures.

I have a mistake on a Luke Skywalker in Imperial Guard Disguise card from Shadows of the EMpire, where the little cape piece isn't packaged with him. Now bear in mind, this was a while ago (1996?) I e-mailed Steve Sansweet about it and the letter was published in SW Insider, where I remember he was a total smartass. That ended any liking for that guy I could have.

Yeah, I dont really like that Sansweet guy. I had always thought he was just an avid collector and considered an expert as far as Star Wars collectibles goes due to his massive collection and all. But now that i know (i dont know if this was always the case) he works for lucas I kinda feel less awe towards his collection. I vaguely remember reading that letter, at least of the error, cant say i remember his response though.

That reminds me of a figure one of my friends that also collects had. He found a Luke in Stormtrooper, the one packaged on the green card, but the figure inside was a Han in Stormtrooper from the kellogg promotional offer.

So he takes all your wonderment and awe and delight in the fact that you have a rare screw up and quashes it like a bug on the ground. Sounds like LFL's MO.

Nice choice Rik, but I hope I can say ditto for me someday. As for myself...

------------

When I was a kid it would have been all the surviving action figures I had left. Man, did I play with things!

I don't collect much now... but amongst my favourites would be my Letterbox Collector's Edition of the OT of course, the last time the Complete Star Wars Saga (as it was still known then) was released with no mention of the special editions or prequels.

I'm pretty proud of the 2 packs of unopened Star Wars cards I still have (I know they're probably rotting away in there with the stick of gum, but I just can't bring myself to open them).

And finally the Marvel comic adaptions. Before the days of home video those were the best ways to relive the movies over and over again, especially with that spectacular Al Williamson art!. They were so beat up, I'vd had to replace them a couple of times, I've even managed to snag a couple of different editions.
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

If I had to choose I'd probably say my book and TPB collection, of which I guess the Star Wars: Technical Journal is the rarest.

My most artsy collectible is that SW Episode I Print Collection that came in the stainless steel case. It may not be worth much, and the movie may not have been top-notch, but the art kicked ass.

I also have about 6 20 gallon air-tight tubs full of vehicles and figures.

Yeah, I really don't get what Sansweet is even for. He acts like LFL's collecting ambassador or something.

Anyway, I neglected to answer, my bad. He responded to my letter in Insider saying like DAYV said, that it wasn't worth anything. But I've seen several more letters regarding errors like mine where he just acts irritated. It's really bad.

And also, he's said he wouldn't do another price guide because Ebay's made it obsolete, yet an official guide is being published and released next year.

My carded Mara Jade EU figure. Bought it on ebay this summer. I bid on one that was autographed by Shannon McRandle, and it would've kicked ass to have gotten that one, but having a carded Mara Jade is better than not having one.

You know, you could go to http://www.shannonmcrandle.com/, send her your figure and have her sign it for you for like 15 bucks.

It's a thought. It's working up the courage to place the figure in the hands of the US Postal Service that's the problem (even with insurance, it's a difficult thing to do).

I wouldn't worry about the USPS, they're not as bad at losing things as people make them out to be.

Get insurance and lie about the value. There would be no way for them to prove otherwise. Make it more worth your while.

And, honestly, the instances of the USPS losing stuff is relatively small. They just get bad press because it's a government run institution instead of a private org. Anytime something goes even minutely haywire, they get lunged at. UPS or FedEx goes awry, people brush it off. I think the perception of the mail system would be different if they were privatized like UPS and FedEx. Alas...
