Discussion: Vintage Star Wars Iron On Transfers

Came across a link on the web for some vintage iron on transfers that someone had scanned.  Figured I’d make some cheap shirts to wear around.  Here’s  a few I’ve done so far:

Some of the “vintage” NOS (new old stock) shirts on ebay go for as much as $200, I can make my own “vintage” shirts for less than $20

Neat idea!

$200 is nuts for something that will probably fade and crack by the third wash like all my 70's SW shirts did. Given the mania back then, how much "new old stock" can there really still be around?

There needs to be an official OT.com shirt design someday.

Oh man, these are AWESOME.

Do you think you could find out where these came from?

I'd love to host these on my website.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

That seller actually has a pretty nice selection of SW shirts and other 70's/80's icons. Pity they are so expensive.

The later designs with "glitter" mixed into the transfer material would be harder to reproduce exactly with a scanner, alas.

I bought a shirt with a vintage iron on at like Target or something once. It faded and cracked right on schedule, but it was the price of a genre shirt, not $100 or something.

Well that eBay seller is definitely proud of their collection.  Most of them are on the old 80s /  late 70s Jerzee t shirts that I loved...they just don't make shirts like they used to! :(

They had a Chewbacca v neck that was going for a ridiculous 250 or something near it

One can never have too many Star Wars shirts, so I'll probably put these to good use when I'm not lazy.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

The fanclub gave out iron-on t-shirt transfers as part of the membership pkg several years ago. I haven't looked at it in a while but I think it was a vintage SW logo with an illustration of an x-wing.

I've made my own t-shirts for my nephews using the '78 circus poster artwork and the Struzan red "Revenge of the Jedi" poster artwork.

It's true, iron on transfers are suitable for sports. Thanks for the tip!

Guys, I have a question...just to clarify, these star war images are public domain? can we use them as designs for shirts that we are going to sell?

No. You can't even sell shirts with the logo, let alone images.

Yeah I mean, some guy was cool enough to scan an old book from '78 so we could have these awesome designs.  Don't try to sell them and make money on it, just make awesome shirts to wear!  I made a couple more yesterday....
