Discussion: Star Wars on 35mm

Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase reel 1 of “Star Wars: Episode 4” on 35mm? I have reels 2 through 6, but no reel 1. It would have to be from an original version… NOT THE SPECIAL EDITION!!! Preferably from before Episode 4 was added to the opening crawl, but if it has that included it’s not that big of a deal. Can anyone help me out???

Shut up, AWK. I'm sure he's well aware of that.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

You wouldn't happen to be the person who bid and won those 35mm reels last month?

Welcome to the boards. I'm envious! (I came perilously close to bidding on them too.) Do you actually have the gear to project them?

Yes, I own a theatre. I've watched it three times now. For as old as the reels are they are in superb shape. It is the original version, no digital track, just the Dolby NR optical. It's beautiful!!!! Now if I could just find an original reel 1...

Oh dude! WHERE do you live!?!

Gee, Silverwook. I can't believe you let those slip through your fingers. Thank goodness this guy found this place.

Hey, Mark. Turn on your PMs.

Well, I could only justify spending so much on something I don't have a projector for! Then there are those pesky things like food and bills...
Looks like the reels ended up in good hands. It's just too bad the seller didn't have reel 1!

That's just great, Silverwook. Always thinking with your stomach!

So, is there somebody here who has inside access to a 4k scanning place? I'm not sure if I'm referring to it correctly, but you know what I mean.

To contact me outside the forum, for trades and such my email address is my OT.com username @gmail.com

Mark9000, I made a unexpected contact recently who is checking around for me. Are you looking for any of the other movies?

Anything that Stanley Kubrick has directed. He's my all time favorite!!!! Also, I'm looking for "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974). There's all kinds of films that I would in fact purchase if given the chance. If you have a list of available titles let me know and I'll get an email address to you. Thanks for helping me out with reel one of "Star Wars", too.

I only asked about Star Wars because the contact in question owns the special editions. I just hope I hear back from them, as 35mm film collectors aren't very open about what they have or where to get certain things for obvious reasons.

Mark,
Maybe these sites will help?

http://www.efilmforum.com/

http://www.35mmforum.com/forums/index.php

This one seems directed at theatre owners primarily though there are classifieds also. Another resource anyway:

http://www.bigscreenbiz.com/cgi-bin/ultimate.cgi

Here's a large page of links to anything remotely related to "film projection":

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Theater/3622/

of course there's related newsgroups too if you haven't already tried posting wanted ads there.

I wish you luck and hope I can attend a screening if you have one someday.
