Discussion: Anyone collect Star Wars LEGO sets?

I would have thought there would be a Lego set thread but either there isn’t one or search has failed me (for the last time, admiral)

I have 3 of the ultimate collector sets:

the Imperial Star Destroyer and the Millenium Falcon.  I really like em all.  If I found out about these earlier maybe I’d have gotten the X-Wing and Blockade Runner.  I have a regular series X-Wing that suffices though.  Also a regular series Y-Wing and TIE Advanced.  If money wasn’t tight I’d probably buy the Imperial Shuttle.  Anyhow, I just saw they came out with the Super Star Destroyer in the past couple of months but I think I’d pass even if I had the spare $.

Sad to see the packaging has a fricken Clone trooper on it.

Anyone else collect these?

I wish I had the funds to collect these. The Executor looks fxcking amazing.

I say never release the originals. Keep the fans talking about something.

I wish they made more Technic sets.  The Droideka was a neet piece of engineering.

My little brothers still have my old "first wave" sets, when all of the characters had the yellow heads. I should get those back...

Found this conversation so I’m officially bringing it back from the dead!

When I was younger, around age 8 or so when I got into Star Wars, I started getting lots of the Lego Star Wars sets. Years and years have passed but I still do get some every now and then and these days I’m able to get bigger sets than I would have back then.

On display right now I have the UCS Slave I, the 2020 AT-AT, Obi-Wan’s home, a TIE Fighter and an X-Wing. I still have some left from when I was younger but they’re put away in storage right now.

I’ve had my eye on the 10th Anniversary Battle of Endor set lately but boy is it pricey these days.

Move along, move along.

I looked at the 25th anniversary sets from Lego: https://www.starwars.com/news/lego-star-wars-25th-anniversary

^ $85

^ $80

^ $55

I thought those are cool, I’ll get some of those, but then realized they are only miniatures. Not a lot of LEGO in them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6X3wII1pio - a 5 minute “first look” video, and an idea on the actual sizes of the ships.

“Don’t tell anyone… but when ‘Star Wars’ first came out, I didn’t know where it was going either. The trick is to pretend you’ve planned the whole thing out in advance. Throw in some father issues and references to other stories - let’s call them homages - and you’ve got a series.” - George Lucas

I think even I could build those out of previous lego sets and pieces, not not splash out that sort of cash they are asking for miniatures. They look nice, but there’s not a lot of bang for buck here.

There are probably even "how to build these’ or MOC videos on YouTube or lego brick sites for this kind of thing out of spare or regular lego? Or even buy 4 or 5 pieces from the MGS series of ships for just one of those lego sets.

Although I’m sure the 25th anniversary pieces will sell very well, and may even be an investment of sorts?

“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” - George Lucas

Far too little LEGO for the prices they are asking for. They look good, but I’d likely have more fun trying to build it out of existing LEGO I already own than buying these new sets.
