Did anyone else find Ian McDiarmid to be ineffectual as the Emperor? — Page 2

So if vader was kicking dueling droid ass all that time, and we've seen that anakin was pretty nifty with a saber, luke, after a few days training on the falcon and a couple of weeks on dagobah should have been lightsaber fodder. We see the Jedis in the prequel somersaulting all over the place, and Anakin jumping out of 100 storey windows to chase assasins, but luke couldn't even dodge a blaster bolt to the hand on Jabba's sail barge.

War does not make one great.

He was distracted ordering Leia around.

Besides... Incomplete was his training.

There was an old issue of Star Wars insider that had a detailed article on the 5 (it think it was 5) forms of lightsaber battle. According to it, obi-wan changed his form after he watched his master (Qui-Gon) die. It was an interesting read, and i dont know if it was endorsed by Lucas, but it did do a good job at covering up the drastic change of lightsaber fighting styles between the OT and the PT

But as far as the Count Dushku (where did you get your name from, I ask cause im a fan of Eliza Dushku (so hot) and wonder if you are as well) said, yes Lucas based the fighting style on the Samurai fighting style, a Japanese Art called Kendo. If you have ever studied Kendo (as i am currently doing) the whole standing face to face thing and very little attacking could result from the fact that they are both so good that they are unable to find openings in each other's stance. Though as ric said, yes, the slow movement and the having your back to your opponenet would have, if against a real samurai, brought about obi-wans 'defeat' much sooner.

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

I think it's much simpler. In Ep IV, Vader is pretty mechanical and Obi-Wan is pretty old. Quite simply, they just don't move like they used to. Luke hasn't been training his whole life like he would in the good ol' days of the Jedi Order, so he's actually more on par with these geezers. He does advance tremendously between IV and V, doing his own somersaults and backflips in the latter.

Still, the whole notion that you had to be trained from age 0 was asinine. I'm just good at rationalizing the minutae for the better enjoyment of the saga.

edit: I'm actually watching ESB right now thru Pinnacle. Pinnacle's preview option reverses the reds and the blues (why, I don't know). But I'm at the lightsaber duel and it's freaking me out. Vader's saber is blue, Lukes is red. Plus, all of the bluish lighting is now red, so it looks like a Tarantino flick. Totally bizarre.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

They integrated at least some of those styles (and I think its 7, not 5, but it doesn't make much difference) into KotOR 2.

The first few are defensive. The next couple are more offensive. More provide a balance. Mace Windu is the only one to use one other style, which focuses on (what appears to be) erratic movement that provides a strong offense without losing too much defensive strength either.

Or something like that.
