Did any of you walk out of the theatre for any of the Star Wars prequels? — Page 3

I have never walked out of the theatre during a movie. Usually I'm picky about movies I want to see in the cinema so my money wouldn't go to waste. When watching Man of Steel last year I really wish I hadn't, that was probably the most off-putting film I've seen at a theatre.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I walk out of all films I see at the cinema. Usually after the end credits roll. I had to use a degree of stealth when I went to see Caravan of Courage because I didn't want anyone I knew knowing I had actually paid to see it.

I have never left a showing without seeing the end of a movie though my ex did once and went home leaving me in the cinema watching The Blair Witch Project (which says more about my taste in others of significance than anything else).

 Not sure if serious?

Anyone who thinks The Blair Witch Project in a walkoutable movie must be crazy.

Of course... because it is not a walkinable film in the first place.

I agree to some extent but you have to walk in to know you shouldn't. The Last Broadcast is superior in almost every way other than the aspect ratio.

More films should be square :-D

You think "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival" is better than "Bring my shuttle", therefore your argument is invalid.

I watched it on DVD and I thought it was alright up to the point where the characters decided it would be totally ok to throw away their map and compass. I immediately lost all empathy for them.

I only wathed AOTC and ROTS at the cinema. Since I was 14 when Sith came out, I didn't question what was going on and so I liked it, or at least I told me to like it. Needless to say, I didn't walk out.

Last year was the first time I really considered to leave early. I was watching the third Hobbit movie and I was already kind of dissappointed by the plastic look, the thin story and the overinflated battle. Then the "smash the tower down to use it as bridge" scene came and Legolas stepping on falling debris was so painful to watch. But I decided to stay because I was there with some friends and the ticket wasn't exactly cheap.

Yeah, but at that point they had run out of food, were trapped in an inescapable pocket universe, and were being hunted by supernatural forces. I think you can cut them some slack. ;-)

I know that I'm harsh on it, but I just couldn't relate to the main characters acting foolishly. I guess I'm just not the type for supernatural mystery stuff, so I tried to rationalize what was happening and that took away the suspense.

From what I've read and heard, people who get really lost in real life (and are unprepared/inexperienced to begin with) start doing incredibly stupid things, witch or no witch.

Where were you in '77?

Well, if I remember right, it was just one of the guys who was unhinged and hysterical and threw the map away in a fit of rage when he was alone, which led to the other two getting really pissed off at him. Also, as others have said, he was going a little crazy and was lost and terrified so I guess it's understandable.

No I don't think that. Here is what I think:

Silence > "Bring my shuttle" > "Alert my star destroyer..." >>> "BRING MY SHUTTLE!"

Yeah, but they still had the compass, but didnt use it. A compass doesn't suddenly stop working.

I think the whole "this is totally not fake" hype prior to the movie prevented me from seeing this as "just a movie" with its own reality and logic. I can easily accept magic in Harry Potter but if a film claims to be real, I expect real world logic. And I just don't believe in witchcraft or the like, so this doesn't seem realistic to me.

There's a lot to like in the PT, and in the theatre I really enjoyed ATOC. It's not as enjoyable with repeat viewings as other films, but then neither is ROTJ. Personally I think ROTJ is the weakest of the OT, and that ROTS is the weakest of the PT.

The "weakest" of the OT is still better than the "best" of the PT......

Well, it's a good thing he didn't say "BRING MY SHUTTLE!" then

I was actually closer to walking out on Return Of The Jedi, but didn't.  It was also shockingly stupid and poorly written, but at least it had Luke.  The rest was just a marketing tie-in and rehash of Star Wars.  Lucas already had the writer's block he was about to unsuccessfully spend twenty years trying to overcome.  ROTJ is where I said goodbye to the franchise.

That's interesting. I can definitely understand that, especially seeing it in a theatre with the expectation that it would be in the same league as its two predecessors. Since I grew up with Jedi and didn't come to the conclusion that it was lesser than the other two until I was in my early teens, I didn't have to live with the disappointment of seeing ROTJ as an adult with the expectation of it being an excellent conclusion to the trilogy.

I'm kind of confused, do you actually think that the "alert my stardestroyer blah blah blah" line is better than the OT version?

I thought I made it clear by now. Original line is better. However the way it is delivered (in angry fashion) ruins the section of the film and Vader's characterisation. Therefore, I will go with relatively lame "Alert my star destroyer..." over a super lame delivery of the original (otherwise decent) line.

No, I'm confused as to whether you think that the original line was delivered too angrily or not. You seem to imply that the original line was delivered angrily, which I guess it was, but no more angrily than any other Vader line in the series (like "I find your lack of faith disturbing")
