No problem.  I know everyone gets busy.  Just thought I'd solicit a little help, but seriously, everyone has to put real life first.

You_Too was correct! Using Chrome developer tools (F12), which are equivalent to Firebug in Firefox, I was able to view individual http requests as the site got each image. This gave me the urls for the individual images, which are all hosted on flickr, such as: http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7269/7553585052_40b213e5c8_b.jpg

After some googling, I used the bookmarklet found here: http://www.bram.us/2008/01/12/my-priceless-flickr-tip-how-to-find-the-original-flickr-photo-url-and-user-from-a-static-flickr-image-url/ on one of the images and found his flickr account. http://www.flickr.com/photos/77542667@N08/ or http://www.flickr.com/photos/77542667@N08/sets/ for more organization.

Then I plugged that url  (the photostream link) into the software found at http://www.flickrdownloader.com/ and soon I had all the files on my hard drive. Unfortunately, I didn't download set by set, but manual sorting while looking at his sets was surprisingly quick. From there it was a quick zip and upload.

I played around with a watermark removing tool ("Photo Stamp Remover") but results were pretty attrocious. If anyone has better ideas, let me know.

Anyway, PM me if you want the link. Ender, obviously I'm just sending it to you.

*Grumble grumble* (Some folks would pay good money for such a prize...) *grumble grumble*.

;)

So one final problem faces me and spits in my eye: Retro Star Wars.  Retro Star Wars is on Facebook, and has an impressive array of photos I've not seen anywhere else.  It also has a whole bunch of jokes and silliness.  The result: close to 16,000 pictures listed on the timeline photos.  When I try to download them in their individual folders, it gets difficult as I have to investigate every folder that seems like it might have something useful, but each folder usually holds between 3 and 6 pictures, with a few exceptions with large folders.  I've downloaded many of the smaller ones picture by picture, while the larger ones or those that are larger with many useful pictures I use a bulk downloader.  After a lot of effort, I worked my way through about a third of the folders.  But the more I scroll down, the slower my computer gets.  If I try to use the bulk downloader to get all 16,000 pictures, the downloader locks up.  I'm willing to download all 16,000 and then pick out the few hundred that I'd actually use, but I can't even do that.

The downloader I'm using is FB album mod, the best I've been able to find.  But still, it can't grab 'em all.

If any genius has any ideas, I'd be most grateful.  And I'd even offer a kiss, though I don't know how my wife would feel about that.

Nevermind.  It just took a lot of patience, a lot of prompting Chrome not to close when it thought it was frozen, and about 2.5 hours to download everything.  But it's all good :)

I'd actually forgotten to mention that there are some brief clips on the Star Wars Extras BDs that might have even brief seconds of additional footage.  I mentioned two before, and if more pop up, I'm certainly interested in someone notifying me.  As I said before, I don't have a BD drive on my computer, so I can't rip anything.  But if anyone is willing to do so for me, I will be done collecting and will then have to begin the extremely daunting task of organizing stuff.  But we are making great headway.  Thanks again to all have lent support so far.  I think this will be really cool when done :)

Yes indeed, as well as Star Wars Aficionado's page.  :)

I know of no other picture collectors as thorough as these three.

So I'm getting ready for exams and haven't been giving as much attention to this lately. However, I should give a small update that I am largely done sifting through the pictures I don't need and I still have over 3,000 pictures! Now these are of varying quality and during the sifting process I've tended to keep redundant pics just so I could choose the best quality versions. But still, I have far more pictures that I could imagine. Now I'm trying to put them in the appropriate folders depending on the episode, and from there I will put them into different slideshows and try to put them in the proper film order. I have to say I am pretty proud of the collection I've put together and I can't wait to show them to everyone. When I'm done putting this together, I will probably just upload all the folders somewhere for others to download at their leisure and make use of all the pictures. I honestly have never seen such a full collection of material!

Little help request, but nothing terribly important: I am working on the OT mostly. I have pulled together various bits of PT, but I have not placed such an emphasis on pictures that would be potentially interesting. I've collected little bits here and there, such as the fat blue Twi'lek senator and his magically changing assistants, but I haven't really put a whole lot of effort into it. If anyone is interested in collecting deleted material or alternate takes from the PT, I would be happy to include it in the project. If not, no biggie, I probably just won't have quite as exciting a slideshow for the PT films (which I know will disappoint EVERYONE at originaltrilogy.com) ;)

Organization is quite time consuming.  I'm glad I've taken longer on this project, as I was very near completion last November.  I decided I wanted to be even more thorough, and as a result I have found at least two thousand more pictures, many of which are higher quality than I had before, but mostly new pics altogether.  Also, I was using pictures that don't need to be included because they simply were captured from the deleted scenes on the BD/Behind the Magic, or are part of the original film's release (it's hard to be sure if something is truly a different angle/take of the shot or if it's just a snapshot of the actual movie sometimes--I admit I wasn't being too vigilant in my comparisons).  Anyway, I'm being wordy as usual.  The point is, I created a very rough draft of ANH last November that might interest some.  Again, expect far more perfection when I release the real thing--many pictures will be in higher quality, and I inadvertently stretched/shrunk some pictures I captured.  I will correct as many of these mistakes as possible and make the whole thing far more attractive.  So here is the rough draft, in hopes that even seeing this will assist folks in realizing just how extensive I intend to be with all three OT movies.

These would be a nice addition:

For that kind of money you could get all 3 films of the oot in LPP, or buy a technicolor print of star wars.

No one is going to pay 2,500 dollars for what is basically unusable test footage.

You could conceivably get both Derann release of star wars and jedi at a cheaper price.  For a bit more you could also get CHC empire as well, lol.

While those reels does seem interesting, I'd agree they're WAY overpriced.

And wouldn't it be better to just contact that "Ruben Jimenez Brinquis" who is mentioned in the letter, and tell him about all the preservation work going on? Maybe he'd let team negative1 borrow some rare stuff for bonus material or something.

This idea could be taken even further to make an NPR cut. You would only need about four hours worth of pictures...

I agree, those films are overpriced.  Looks fun and interesting, but I don't think I'll make use of them.  Thanks for the suggestion, poita :)

NPR cut?  I'm not sure what you mean, DoubleKO.

An edit using the audio from the NPR radio drama. Of course it wouldn't be synched, but most of the movie and deleted scenes could be lined up fairly well. The rest of the "void" could be filled with this sort of material, as well as concept art and behind the scenes footage. Just an idea, I didn't mean that you should be the one to do it. I am looking forward to this project just the way it is :)

The bidding is starting at $199 now.  I for one would really like to see these.

Ah, the NPR Radio Drama...that's an interesting thought. I certainly don't have the talent to do it justice. Could it be done? Well, there are parts that were never filmed or even conceptualized till the radio script was written. There would definitely be gaps that couldn't be filled with even this large collection. At least, not everything would be applicable (like there'd be no Squeak, there'd be no flight sim scene, etc. Still, surrounding footage could give context, and I think it is an interesting idea with merit. I wouldn't be the one to do it, but I'd be pleased to see it.

how far is your Deleted, altered, and alternate material project?

where can we download it?

Author

Not available yet.  I will put it up on MySpleen when ready.  I know my project is simpler than many, but my time is extremely limited these days (not like anyone else is short on time, but that's how it is).  I'm getting there.  Though I don't post lots and lots of updates, I make a little progress almost every day.  The main thing is organizing the pictures into a several slideshows with some description to go with it.  Thanks for inquiring :)

Oh! Wow, I guess I haven't watched my BD extras disc very recently: I'd forgotten there was so much extra footage! Thank you.

No, I'd never found that site.  I hate you for finding it ;)  It means I have more to download, which is fine.  I already have almost every picture, but these are higher quality than many.  While I tease about hating you, in all seriousness thanks for the good find :)

EDIT: In reality, it's not a ton more pictures to download, as I'm only getting the ones that could have been in the film.  Again, thanks for pointing me to this site.
