When it’s just a handful of people, it’s not worth it to Disney to go after them. More money and hassle than it’s worth. There will always be a few jerks doing this sort of thing. That’s inevitable. It becomes an issue for us when they go unchecked, so more people do it, and then more people. Then, suddenly, there’s so many people selling fan projects that it becomes worth it for Disney to take action.

And who do you think they’ll go after? Not the sellers. Suing each of them individually is too much effort. No, they’ll go after Harmy and Adywan and all of us who participate in helping bring their projects and projects like them to life.
They’ll shut down this site and sue the brains off of the creators. Easier for them to take the issue down at the source than try to go after every basement-dwelling jerk pawning them off on ebay.

So that’s why we have to try and take down as many of these listings ourselves. eBay doesn’t care on their own. But if a listing gets enough people reporting it, they might take it down. If the listings get taken down, we might just be able to keep the amount of sellers at a level that Disney won’t care about.

It has gotten so bad on Ebay i’m looking up a legitimate Laserdisc release and bootlegs of nearly every fan project show up in my search results.

I’m afraid to even buy a DVD or Blu ray of a new film there now and i will get it on Amazon, its gotten completely out of hand with the pirated copies on auction sites.

For every 2 or 3 that get taken down another dozen pop up.

I have reported this shop to Etsy and got nowhere. So decided to try reporting to Disney instead.

What do you choose when reporting them on ebay?

I knew it was only a matter of time until 4k80 made its way into some jerk’s store. Guy used to be on Ebay and Etsy and now on Ecrater. Not gonna link because he will just get more sales.

There is a site. I found out about it on youtube, selling 4K discs of 4k77, 4k80 and 4k83. Not going to link. It seriously is bad for the community for people to do this. The Blu-Ray boots were bad enough but offering 4K and not just 4K but HDR copies as well, awful.

Edit: it’s not through youtube obviously it’s a webstore that sells bootlegs. They even call these despecialized when they are 4k versions of the 4k77, 4k80 and 4k83. And Harmy isn’t the one who did those they can’t even get basic facts right.

Please report that to YouTube. Selling this content is exactly the type of thing that would have these giant corporations going after the miniscule fanediting community.

I definitely saw this video. I tried to leave a polite comment on it to explain why he shouldn’t be promoting or endorsing the selling of fan restorations (and to point out the difference between the Despecialized and 4KXX versions). It was instantly deleted by the user… so he obviously knows what he’s doing is wrong.

Yeah he admits in the video to buying an illegal advance 4K bootleg which is perfect quality for a Godzilla Minus One. The store linked is literally pre-selling a bootleg of the Acolyte. I had hoped he was just a fan taken in by an unscrupulous person, but they clearly don’t care.

And to make matters worse that bootlegger I mentioned before from Europe who was kicked off of Ebay is back again under a new name selling all 3 4K projects on blu.

This other store, which is way worse is US based.

I wish something could be done to stop this piracy it hurts our community.

I’d message Williarob but he is probably aware of it.
