Hello and thank you for anyone reading. So I know they’re are so many programs that can de-interlace and so many how to guides how to convert and do so but I suppose I’ll always question if I’m ever converting correctly so I was wondering if anyone could help me get on a good start on the right path in preserving media. I’m trying to de-interlace a .mkv file that was converted from a .Lds file. The output file results are below.

So back to the many programs… If I plan on editing the video also later like in coloring and cuts/combine, what should I be doing? Should I be using Resolve and learn to output the file lossless or Handbrake with certain settings like EEDI2 or Hybrid with QTGMC, very slow, bob or even see what virtual dub can do. My last guess would maybe be something like ai “Topaz” to de-interlace while keeping the same video size and not upscaling. Thanks for any advise

I am a complete novice when it comes to this sort of thing , but VLC media player has a deinterlace function that can be recorded from the player ,I used it while watching an early dvd release of BladeRunner ,which was sourced from a laserdisc release and could see the interlacing artifacts on it ,so I applied deinterlace in VLC and it worked well , I could no longer see the artifacts in the video . VLC is a free open source media player and a powerful tool that can play just about any video file you throw at it .Here are the steps to deinerlace and record on it…

Open the video in VLC.
Apply the deinterlacing filter. You can find this in the video settings.
Go to “View” -> “Options” (or “Tools” -> “Options” depending on your VLC version).
In the “Output” section, choose your desired recording format and location.
Click the “Record” button (usually a red square).
The video will be recorded with the deinterlacing filter applied.

I hope this helps in some way .

I wish more people would respond to the how to requests in this forum .Over the past year or so I’ve seen 0 replies to a lot of questions asked here. There used to be a lot more engagement ,and that’s a shame , I find many of the topics interesting to read . Anyway , good luck with your project !
