It's a shame that this guy doesn't seem to be one of us as yet.

If he could be turned, he could become a powerful asset...

I think this guy should team up with the Third Stage team and release a new version.

I thoroughly enjoyed the third stage edition now for some enhancement???

I'm glad people are still liking the Third Stage Edition.   But have you seen spicediver's "Alternative Edition Redux"?  It's really outstanding!

Not heard of this! I only just watched Third Stage a few weeks ago and really loved it.

Is Alternative Edition Redux newer?

I honestly can't keep track of all the Dune edits any longer.

I have the Fanfiltration, which I assumed would be the last one I'd ever need... and then I saw the Third Stage, which has some nice improvements.

So now the Alternative Edition Redux is the one I should be watching?  I'm starting to have real trouble keeping track on the differences.

I recently downloaded the Alternative Edition and it's lined up for a view.

I did notice a rather ugly jump cut in the scene where the Navigator visits the Emperor while checking the file worked, which is a shame because some of the ideas in the edit are really good and it looks like a very fixable error.

I like Spicediver's work a lot.

He did the really cool edit of Exorcist 3 called Legion which is as near to the film as it should be as we can probably expect to see since Morgon Creek lost the excised footage down the back of their sofa.

I think he is part of the Digitial Fan Edit crowd which probably means he doesn't come on here very often.

On Youtubes there is an extended version of the Navigator scene where the dialogue from the German dub is used for the Navigator's voice. It's rather cool.

Well... that was fast.  Video has been blocked by Universal.

Are there any clips from the German release of DUNE?

Still playing on this side of the pond???

The message that pops up is something like:

This video contains content from Universal Pictures, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

So I guess if those in the US want to see this, it either needs to be posted on Vimeo or as a downloadable file.

Can someone post this on Vimeo or create a downloadable file?

I watched the Spicediver Redux tonight.

It's rather brilliant.

There are obviously problems that can not be navigated around even in a control room of spice gas.

But without having an Ady style overhaul this is the best the material is probably going to get (jump cuts aside).

I loved ADM's workprint cut and the Third Stage Edition but this is a major restructuring and almost every Fremen eye is painted now which is a mind boggling achievement on it's own.

Short of recasting the Harkonnens, removing the Weirding modules and doing most of the sandworms again I cant see this getting much better.

I looked for the spicediver redux and could not find it....

Can you help me out there Bingo?

I don't think the elements you mentioned need to be changed but I do agree with having an Adywan style makeover... One can only dream... I would rather he did this than the star wars prequals... But perhaps he does not like this film enough to care and would even think about devoting time to this... I would hope somone out there would take up the challenge perhaps using the spicediver redux if it is indeed as good as you say it is as a template.

God it would be epic though.

I imagine googling "Spicediver Dune Redux" would probably get you to where you want to be.

I did something like that a few days ago, probably, and possibly got the results I reported above.

As per usual, it goes without saying you need to own the source material legitimately before viewing the fan edit.

So ..... I'm not sure what good doing all the work on this was, if no one will post or PM any links to it.  What's the point if no one can see it?!

Hi,

this thread is rather old. However the Third Stage Edition is my favorite version of “Dune”.
Since 2014 a German BluRay of the TV version in widescreen is available.

So if Phineas is still reading this he might be interested in doing a HD 1080p version of his Third Stage Edition.

Please respond in the thread or by PM and I could help out sourcing the TV version on Bluray

Thanks.

If the German Blu ray you are referencing here uses the same master as the Japanese Extended Blu ray, then the Extended scenes are just upscaled to 1080p and are not true HD. They are spliced in with the scenes from the theatrical version, which are true 1080p HD. Do you have a link for the German Blu ray?

I saw spicedivers edit last night and I can honestly say I understand the film better than i ever had previously.

I still think there is a bit of room for some further improvement but It is very well done.

here are some notes about the edit that are fairly sparce.

On the opening narration when princess irulian fades away then fades back in again something was obviously meant to fill the gap footage wise.

missing shots of guild navigator ship landing.

it is quite a while before I noticed anything else until the Harkonan attack Arrakis.

I liked the removal of internal dialogue some more should be removed if possible.

The attack on Arrakis Base and aftermath are very mixed up. Duke Leto Paul Jessica and Huey scenes should come after the Battle… The give away is the Baron talking about sending a reconassince craft before the Harkonan ship has crashed. This part needs more re-structuring re-arranging but amongst the overall re-structure that has been done was excellent this remains the part that needs attention.

During the Battle laser bolts are missing.

During the fremen attack on spice production some of the weirding module shouts lack audio effects for the voice.

This is the best version I have seen yet though and it is a fascinating version and it’s very close to being finished.

I feel it needs a small bit more editing but it’s not like this edit fixes the story I would say about 90%

Some improved special effects would also improve some parts or observing errors such as craft launch from Caladan but the planet is grey not blue.

Look at this lobby card to see what it should look more like as it’s not so much the spacial effects but it looks totally wrong.

Either a 3rd Stage Guild Navigator has folded all interested parties to another part of the galaxy, all steam has been lost on this project, or nobody is monitoring this thread.

It would be nice to have someone up date the effort or put it to rest with a resounding “It Ain’t Gonna Happen” so I stop searching for a better edition than the Alan Smithee one.

On the same vein, with all the folks saying they have watched the 3 hour extravaganza regardless of who’s it is, Spicediver - would you please share the link that you watched or $ell me a copy in flash drive, DVD, Digital Download or what ever other format I can watch it in. Please?!?

Spicediver’s Alternative Edition is on YouTube. I prefer it to the Third Stage Edition anyway (which does seem to be tough to find nowadays).
