Dark_Jedi & ABC's - ESB: IMPERIAL EDITION - ART OF SCORING, Restored Recordings against the B&W GOUT - JW & LSO (Released) — Page 3

For further info, though it may be lost in the thread (but at least it will have been said), I used two Radio Drama bits on the score reconstruction in:

  • "Mynock Cave" part 1, for its dynamic range that sounds superior to the SE and fitting well with the following RSO parts

  • "Carbon Freeze" ending, allowing me to have the last faded horn note as heard in the film

Thanks a lot Luiswookie !

OK ABC, good news! The DVD is done, I am going to burn test and watch it and see how it goes, if all is good, then we will need to get this to you, the final size of the DVD is 4.24 GB's, the video avg bitrate is only 3200 but as you see it just fit the PCM audio.

I will keep you posted.

Great. The image quality I saw on your sample indeed fits with the music. It has something thrilling to watch. It happened sometime that I tried to see what the reediting give on Ady's reconstruction, being the only NTSC version I had, and it just didn't fit with the image quality: it missed the "reel feeling" !

Be sure I'll watch out for news :)

HOLY SHIT THIS IS REALLY F'ING AWESOME! I have to tell the truth, I thought I would lose interest and not be able to watch the whole DVD, but I am WRONG, this is very, very COOL!, I do not miss the color, dialogue, special FX at all, this really turned out SWEET.

A HUGE Thanks goes out to ABC and G-Force for this, I used the v3 ESB video.

SO COOL, that is pretty much all I can say LOL.

ABC, I can't wait to see the artwork you come up with for this, I bet it does this DVD proud.

LOL 1 more thing, the Snow Speeder\Imperial walker Hoth Battle is especially cool, it is so much different seeing and hearing it this way.

LOL ! I only have a light idea of what it gives working on the audio... Can't wait to "see" !

Any moment when you felt a lack in the synchronization... ? is the Hoth Battle alright ?

Can't wait to see the "Mynock Cave" and the "Asteroids" sequences.... And the Duels !!!

Oooh, this sounds pretty freakin' sweet!  I'm excited!

ABC, would you consider doing the same for ANH and ROTJ?

The Hoth Battle seems perfect to me, nothing at all seems out of place or jarring, I am really impressed, and as I have stated before, I usually am not a big fan of score only tracks on DVD's, but this one with the B&W video really shines to me.

later this afternoon I will send you(PM) clips of the "Mynock Cave" and "Asteroids" so you can get a preview .

I to think this would be AWESOME, especially seeing this, but I am not going to push anything, but if so I will get the video ready and get the PCM's to ABC ASAP.

I've been restoring this ESB soundtrack for 6 months... so it needed it. It allowed me to spot every tiny bits of music edited, nudged, removed etc right away and make this film cut version in 5 days... I currently don't think the other two films deserve this treatment, notably when I haven't worked on turning their sound that good nor studied these that far. That would be a huge work then for someone who's not convinced it worth it.

ESB score is such a masterpiece (score and film) that I'm not that surprised it turned that good on the picture. D_J' s black and white musical version will be the cherry on the cake for me, I'm sure! :)

PS: Thanks a lot D_J ! :)

Thanks! :) Perhaps we can share these samples here (assuming someone may be interested even if nobody posts here)...

PS: Hey, I hope my previous post hasn't broken the ambiance ! ;)

Thanks a lot D_J ! I just added those in the OP.

It's really great, and seeing these reenforce my thought that SW and Jedi wouldn't give such a result. They would just be nice, but not as great.

The Mynock Cave sequence is even better than I thought ! :) Can't wait to see the entire bunch...

PS: My bad, The final "Asteroid Field" segment could have been better synchronized. Great version as edited for the film though. ;)

D_J, I'm asking this for the backcovers:

Are your chapters matching the music/suites, or are they matching the original GOUT ?

They are matching the original GOUT.

Mmmmhhh, I thought but too late they could have matched with the music. Not a big deal anyway.

The IE Quad covers... ;)

So this is how it will look in the amaray case?

if so that is going to take some getting used to, I have never seen DVD cases look like this.

Wow ! You're quick... And you said you don't manipulate images. Mmmhh mmhh.

PS: oh, and take a look in your covers thread...

Btw D_J, I don't know if you try yourself at editing, but with the mix I sent to you, you would have nothing to do if you had the idea to add almost all the unused score to the original mix. Just fades, and take care of the volumes...

;)

I just checked on the original and... not at all. Or perhaps the synchro is not perfect in the film itself and then I could have tried to improve it. (It's about the moment when the two last tie fighters crash).

I'm really inerested in the project guys. I've listened to ABC audiophile restoration of ESB and can't wait to see how this Imperial one would sound like with the movie in the background.

Thanks a ton for your work guys !

I only found this today, but nonetheless I would be interested in this project.

But to be honest, I was looking for a movie accurate score only.
