DVD-menus... the Van Ling way!

For you you haven't seen it, VFXblogs has posted several clips which go "behind the scenes" of several DVD menus created by the infamous Van Ling. He created the animated menus for DVD-sets like "The Abyss", "Terminator 2", "Independence Day" and of course all of the "Star Wars"-DVDs. So, if you feel up to the task, you could do it yourself for your favourite preservation project!

(Some of the clips found on the XFXblogs site can be found at the ElectricImage page as well, at better quality.)

Note that The Official Site is also offering various "Making of the menus"-clips, but they're only available to hyperspace-members (which I'm not), so I don't know if the clips there are any different. Maybe someone might check them out and share them with us.

Thanks a huge for those links!
I really love the SW DVD menus, as well of the other Ling menus! T2 menu is really awesome, just the fact to see places we don't see in the movie.

I'm an Hyperspace member and have seen the "DVD Deconstruct" videos. The Ep3 videos seem to be the sames (at least it's from the same source material), I'll see when the download will be complete, cause those videos are really weighter than the HS ones. Maybe there is more material in it?

Good finding! Thanks again.

I've never been a fan of DVD menus, they always seem forced, and i just want to get to the content not wade through periferals. But it's fantastic to see the compositional elements pulled out so you can attempt to asorb how they created them. I love the drop down RotJ Rebel Meeting menu composite movie.

And it's nice to hear about those Banned From the Ranch guys. Now that the PTs are over, wonder when they'll start adding their opinions to the public Lucas myth.
