DVD-Lab help, please...

*Sigh* I like the program, but I'm really hating it right now since I'm still on the learning curve. I'd like to do two things with the program, but it seems to be blocking me all the way. I'd appreciate it if I could get a helping hand to guide me through it. (Yes, I have read the help (F1) and it didn't help at all.)

1. The easier part... how in the heck do you make scene selection menus that are built from scratch in this thing? The templates are horrible and can't really be manipulated to what you want. So how is it done?

2. I also have a main menu that I'd like to use menu cells with. However, the movie in the background is giving me headaches as well. I'm not quite sure on how to set this up correctly. I have all the parts to go with it. I just need help assembling it.

Any help would be appreciated.

1)
Do you want a scene selection menu with the mini pictures of the scenes? Or just names? Any way, the first thing you must do is select the movie stream and make chapter points. After that in the menu you can link (just right click the button) whatever buttons you make to the chapter points.

2)
What do you mean with menu cells? Do you mean a motion menu with buttons displaying the different scenes?

Also, there are very handy guides at the dvd-lab site.

"how in the heck do you make scene selection menus that are built from scratch in this thing?"

Either drag/drop a scene from the video (click on the video in assets, and then fast-forward through the video to a scene you like), or click on the text icon and type in the name of the video/chapter stop.

After doing this, right-click on the video or text, and create a link to the actual video. Do this for each chapter. If you need more pages, create a link to the second page the same way (and create a link on the second page that comes back to the first.)

Yeah, I'm not sure what this means, either. Can you explain what you want to have happen on the menu screen?

I want to use a movie in the background with a separate audio stream. After a certain part of it plays I'd like the second half of the audio stream repeat, but the move stay on the last frame of the first cell. So A-B plays once, B-C repeats. Buttons to different menus on the bottom of the screen

TAG, I think you mean something similar to the animated menus for the new Ultimate Edition James Bond DVDs. They have animated intros and then a looping segment.

Exactly. The Simpsons seasons sets do this also now. They use cells to achieve this, but I have had nothing but trouble with it from the start.

Can't you just make 2 menus. 1 with the intro, one with the loop, link the intro to the loop and link the loop to itself?

Yes, but I'd like to learn how to do it with cells.

Right now I'm having the fun time of trying to figure out why I can't link from the main menu to my scene selection menus. I try to draw a link to them but the scene selection menus are grayed out. It's driving me insane!

TAG, I don't know if you've found this bit in the help yet, so: Delayed Buttons & Menu Cells. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's from the help file. I made a workaround anyway. I'll try to look at it again in the future.

I see what you want to do now. You need your video to have all the parts together - beginning/end. When you drop the video file into the movie, you will see it next to the Motion box. Slide the slider to the end of the beginning video. This is where the playback will stop and loop. When you make a selection, it will play through the slider to the end of the whole video.

Are they greyed out, or crossed out with a red X. If it's the latter, then you have segments in different VTSs. Can you do a screen capture of the overall layout?

I had the main menu in a VMS and the rest in a VTS. I fixed it, and all is well (for the moment anyway). Thanks for the help everyone! I appreciate it.
