DVD Active's The Ten (things that SW Blu-Ray should include)

Cool article, if you didn't see it already check it out here:

http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/the-ten-things-that-the-forthcoming-star-wars-blu-ray-should-include.html

YAY to the request for "good artwork", and the suggestion about a toys documentary is interesting too, but it is this section that's really singing my tune...

EVERY VERSION

With content and packaging out of the way let’s focus on the specifics. Each of the six episodes should be there in all their different versions right? This is Blu-ray after all. The format that has space to spare and with years of bitching about original and special editions, it’s about time Lucasfilm released the product we’re all wanted—the one that covers it all.

So, just to be clear: original theatrical versions, ’97 special editions and the DVD versions of the original trilogy (you know, the one with the slightly less gooey Jabba amongst other things).

Moving onto the prequels, with the much talked about and indeed glimpsed at new scenes arriving in at least The Phantom Menace (including the much needed CGI Yoda), I’m hoping we don’t just get the new versions on the new format. Again, I’m after theatrical and then any changes in a separate selection.

Oh and before you think we’ll forget. all in HD. You know how we all felt about the original versions of the original trilogy when they got thrown out on DVD, Lucasfilm. Don't let us down.

Amen to that!

I'd rather pay for a Star Wars dedicated TV or on-demand channel.  There's too many miscellaneous things which I would like to see, but they are not the content which these BluRay's are targeting.  With a channel, you can give people the quality presentation of the main features which drives the market (ie these BluRays), but also satiate the less marketable material, which could become marketable as people realize it exists.

That's actually a really cool idea! My only problem is that on-demand stuff is so over-compressed.

That may well but, but i'd rather see the stuff then not see the stuff.  And to get quantity, you need a constant revenue stream, and the website subscription didn't keep the material flowing, so many people opted out.  The time to implement the dedicated channel might be as the Clone Wars cartoon wraps but shortly before the live action show comes out, even if the live action show doesn't appear initially on the dedicated channel.  I think it would be fascinating to see random SW things at any time.  They've got the old shows and movies for primetime features, and they could tap into the fan film library for late night content, then sprinkle in old news broadcasts to fill in voids.  Tuesday is documentary night, Thursday Droids, Early morning with Wicket, they could run a block of just toy ads at 4pm and still get people to watch, the Figrin D'an Saturday morning music hour dance party, Cooking with Gormaanda and Elzar, and New Cut-Scenes at 11.

George Lucas doing something like that would make James Cameron remember who the big dog is.

I honestly don't hate the prequels at all. They have their moments (as few as they are)

I just won't put another penny into the Lucasfilm collection plate for a release that doesn't have my Star Wars the way I saw it as a little kid. I am going to wait until some gullible member buys it. If it get's the thumbs up, then I'll buy it.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I'm sure we'll know if the OOT is included well before this set is released.

I agree with the article. It's fanboy dreams, but I agree nonetheless. However, I have a feeling that we're just going to get a new SE of the OT and nothing more ;_;

They defnitely need to include the original trilogy not the special edition.

I suppose it's always nice to see reviewers, directors, publications, etc stating that Lucas really should do the right thing and properly release the theatrical version of Star Wars.  It's nice to know we're not some small niche website with some weird expectations or desires.

That said.  Over the years, there have been more of these types of articles than we can count.  They don't matter.  They're nothing more than someone wearing their heart on their sleeve, backed up with sound advice, reasoning, examples, etc.

Lucas doesn't care.  It doesn't matter how many times he's called out on it.  The President Of The United States could ask him to do it as a personal favor and explain to him it's the right thing to do for the good of all Americans as well as fans around the world - he still wouldn't do it.  In his world, there are only two choices;  What he wants - and everyone else's unimportant thoughts on the matter.

The more people push him, the more he digs his heels in. And truthfully, at this point - how can he do otherwise?  He's lied for so long about the "grand original vision", the destroyed originals, the original 12 9 6 films etc, etc, that he can't go back now. He's completely ego-driven.  He'd have to admit the lies - or at least put up with being called on them.

Anyway, we can dissect the possibilities a hundred different ways, but one thing is certain - whatever is released, it won't have the 1977 version on it.

It'll be Fullscreen DVD quality. Pan&Scan FTW or WTF?

Oh, I wouldn't want Jorge to read my sarcastic comments either.
