DV editing software recommendations?

I'm finally getting my feet wet with editing video on the pc, but I've quickly learned windows movie maker kind of sucks.

Can anyone recommend some good not overly complicated editing software?

I'm an old 20th century analog video tape editing kind of guy, and just trying to catch up with the times. ;)

Hey, I still don't think Vegas is all that complicated.  And Sony MovieStudio is slightly simpler and a LOT cheaper.  Plus, if you use one of them and have any questions, there are dozens of people here who might be able to help you out.

+1 on Vegas Movie Studio, it's what I've been using and it's been pretty straightforward.  I tried Womble before that, but I find that things are much easier to do in Vegas.

So what formats are accepted/not accepted by Vegas?

Thanks for the info, Puggo and Tv's Frink!

I'll have a look at Vegas after my taxes are over with.

Depends on the version.  Between the various versions of Vegas, and the various versions of Vegas MovieStudio, there isn't just one answer to your question.  The website has a table showing the varieties and tries to summarize what they each can/can't do.

Try Vegas MovieStudio first.  The interface is basically the same, it does almost everything the pro version does, at about 1/10th the price.

Free trial is even better!

Is it possible to import a Windows Movie Maker project into Vegas, or do I have to start from scratch?

Chances are you'll have to start from scratch.
