After a lot more editing and consolidating footage and material, I’ve arrived at a rough cut, running at 6hr 21mins. I’ll be watching this over the course of the next week or so, and hopefully that number comes down.

If any crazy son of a bitch wants to watch the rough cut and provide feedback, let me know and I’ll hook you up, but this is hopefully too long and I can cut it right down while finessing the audio/video.

One of my favourite things I’ve done in this whole TPM thing, which is just talking about Doug Chiang and his process with George and with design. It’s so fun combining so many different sources and intercutting everything to tell one story. It’s great, and I’m enjoying it.

I’ve watched through my 2nd rough cut, and am now making adjustments, both technical and story-wise to get everything feeling smooth and cohesive, which means cutting and rearranging materials. Right now I’ve locked Part 1-4, which leaves 5-14. Hopefully it’s done soon-ish.

So cool. Can’t wait to see the whole thing.

Man, this is great work! The topic is so focused that changing sources doesn’t break the flow at all. I’d love to sit down and watch all of this with my dad and bask in the Phantom Menace nostalgia!

in fact, if you still have the rough cut, id love to give it a watch if you’re willing

I’m really enjoying this series. Unfortunately, I noticed a couple typos. Going by the YouTube upload timestamps on these videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-NaUNTvYyU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z6AJJG9X5A

In Part 1 - Prequel Prelude, at 4:08, “California” is misspelled. In Part 6 - A Planet Called Tatooine, at 0:53 “Doug Chiang” is misspelled.

Aw man why did you alter Rick Mccallum’s famous “this is f*cking grim” which occurs at 27:16 in Part 6 of your edit? That’s a classic moment like “it’s so dense”. Having him say “this is editing jump grim” just doesn’t hit the same.

I’ve watched 11/13 of these now, and I’ve absolutely loved this project. The material is so interesting and relatable, and you’ve cut it in a way that makes it really digestible and coherent. Totally great, thank you so much for compiling and structuring it all in this way.

Hey there! So after watching “The Phantom Menace” yesterday to celebrate its 25th Anniversary, I decided to give this a whirl having it play in the background all day as I did some work.

Anyways, I wanted to say that this was pretty great and I highly commend you for overtaking such a huge project such as this. Because of the wide scope of the entire project, I did feel that how you sectioned off each part of the doc was pretty shaggy but I can’t really hold you against that. One other issue I had as well is that numerous times towards the end, the audio cuts out.

Other than that though… Nicely done!

Awesome, I’ll check this out very soon! The YouTube channel Star Wars Meg recently talked about a deleted scene which could have been inserted for better context when Qui Gon disposed of one of Maul’s probes as in that one scene where he and Anakin were running for their ship without much of a reason, that scene could have been better left in.

Such a wealth of information, these Prequels have… 😃

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I’m still chipping away at my v2, which is always ongoing because I keep finding clay to throw onto the pottery wheel. I keep rewatching and revising but I hope to have it done in the next few months.

How did it feel “shaggy”? Is it because the sections feel very seperated, rather than being more chronological in it’s approach to production (like part 1 being pre-production, part 2: shooting and production, part 2: post-production, editing and vfx, etc)

Yeah that’s pretty much the one deleted scene that everyone adds back in when editing the film. Its so quick and explains why they’re running, it’s shocking why they cut it out.

Yeah, basically that. Again, can’t really fault you for that though since this is such an ambitious project on your part and taking materials from such disparate sources would be quite the challenge of trying to separate and then put them all in chronologically.

Also, good to hear that there is a V2 in the works! I’m looking forward to it.
