DISNEY TO BUY MUPPETS

Well, at least they would do a better marketing job than that German company. Disney's supposed to start up a whole new series for the Muppets on the small screen. I'll give Disney a chance with it. Could have potential.

Didn't Disney already own the muppets?

Its too bad Pixar didn't buy the muppets. Then we'd really be cooking.
And I dance. And I sing.
And I'm a monkey, in a long line of kings.

I know that at one point, either Disney or Warner Bros did own the rights to the Muppets and then sold them to some German media conglomerate. Went to hell in a handbasket from there.

Disney had a licencing arrangement with Jim Henson Productions that resulted in two TV series (Dinosaurs and Muppets Tonight) and three movies (Muppetvision 3-D for the theme parks, and The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island). The deal was finalised shortly before Jim Henson's death, but family members weren't too happy about the arrangement and spent many dollars and years suing to get out of it, only to have it lapse naturally shortly after the release of Muppet Treasure Island. This deal has Eisner's fingerprints all over it; I personally would have preferred to see Sony Pictures buy the Muppets, since they have done the best job of handling Muppet material.

Darn, I failed to record on a tape the episode1/season1 of Muppets Tonight, when there was re-run few years ago... I almost got demoted in I.S.B.
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

What did Sony do with the Muppets?

Why did you get demoted RRS? Road trip to those who made this decision, guys? I'll drive this time.

I guess I would have to know what Muppets Tonight is and where I would find this information. So far as I know, the Muppets are not currently on U.S. television.

Sony co-produced two films featuring the Muppets (Muppets from Space and Elmo in Grouchland) as well as releasing numerous Jim Henson properties on DVD and video in very good to excellent versions. They also co-produced the film Buddy, which was a Jim Henson Pictures film and featured effects by the Creature Shop.

that's why I was confused. I remember watching it but it sucked. Didn't like that Catfish looking host. Didn't realize it was still on in other countries.

Muppets Tonight had its moments; there's a pretty strong argument for a best-of DVD (Sandra Bullock's Phenomenon sketch, Garth Brooks doing "If I Were a Rich Man" as a homage to Bruce Lee, etc.).

I just wish they hadn't trod all over the memory of the Muppets by using that name in the title. Why couldn't they just give it something else? Damn them.

I just remember Chris Rock's line in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back... "Do you know that I came up with the idea for Sesame Street? I came up with it before PBS. The white man stole it. That's right. I was gonna call it "N.W.P." - Niggaz With Puppets. Catchy, ain't it?"
