Be warned, though, there's a fuckton of material and it's mostly menu screens. That's why I haven't put it together yet, it's just very daunting.

can i pm you?

Actually I did see mention of it on the digitalbits. I assume it will be different extras than the Criterion release though.

Here:

digitalbits

"Also, we may already have mentioned this, but The Adventures of Baron Munchausen: 20th Anniversary Edition will street on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 4/8. The DVD (SRP $19.94) will include audio commentary with director Terry Gilliam and co-writer/actor Charles McKeown, the 3-part The Madness and Misadventures of Munchausen documentary, storyboard sequences (with all-new vocal performances by Terry Gilliam and Charles McKeown) and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray (SRP $28.95) will add the Marvelous World of Munchausen enhanced graphics and trivia track."

Assuming that they make the picture look good on this, would a transfer of the LD still be warranted?

If not, I think that at least a disc of the Criterion extras would be great to have.

oh and there was a vote somewhere to choose the cover... again no idea where I heard - try Amazon on that one.

Interesting info, I had no idea.

I think the laserdisc transfer of the flick is still warranted because it was transferred at Gilliam's apparent preferred aspect ratio of 1.75:1. The DVD will probably be 1.78:1 or 1.85:1. A minor difference, to be sure, but I'm just saying.

I agree - from what I've read I would say there will be a distinct difference. There's some interesting stuff about the transfers of Tideland (and the cropping that ensued) on www.smart.co.uk/dreams the Gilliam fanzine and advice from Gilliam as to which is his preferred!

and so if the tranfer is still warranted we return the the question... where does it stand?

still really looking forward to it...

wow that sucks about the tideland release... i'll be waiting for the corrected version to buy.

and i am SO excited about the bluray release of munchausen. this will be AWESOME!

...i still think a criterion LD would be a good idea, tho. especially the extras.

For once it paid off for me to not buy Terry Gilliam's latest film the day it came out!

Can anyone confirm that the audio commentary on the new Sony DVD is or isn't the same one from the Criterion Laserdisc? I know the Life of Brian DVD had the CC commentaries but I just wanted to be sure.

i just picked up munchausen on bluray and watched it this week.  HOLY GOD that is an amazing transfer considering it's age.

the commentary is different than the criterion collection.

Does anyone know where can I find this preservation 2-disk transfer of the LD to the DVD? I was wondering, because I read a lot about the project a year or so ago and I kinda love the film and want it for my collection.

So? Does anyone know anything?

I think it should be said that being demanding and pushy does not inspire people who could be helpful into sending you a copy of this project. I know I speak for a lot of people with projects here (including myself) when I say that no one likes to be harangued. Not to sound like Suzy Crosswalk, but politeness goes a long way.
