Creating an authentic looking crawl

Hi all. I'm currently a few weeks into what is essentially a very extensive and carefully planned re-cut version of Episode II with some deleted scenes and incorporated music from the OT. I've nearly completed the editing process, what I need now is to make a new crawl.

I've been looking around a lot on the web for guides on doing this but haven't really been pleased with what I've found. I'm wondering if any of you can help direct me towards a good guide on doing this crawl. Alternatively, if you've got a bit of spare time, write down a quick guide yourself. I'm sure this would be useful for several others beside myself, and I would be most grateful. Thanks.

I know certain people like mebejedi are great at doing crawls and would PROBABLY (not volunteering anyone here) be willing to do it if you asked them nicely. You would think after all this time they would get tired of it though and just write a good guide for the rest of us, but alas, perhaps having a monopoly outweighs the work!

If you can ever get hold of Rebel1138, his crawls are outstanding as well.

Thank you guys, I will ask around some.

Zion, if you could find the time to do this guide that would be awesome. Being able to do a crawl myself would be the best way, since I tend to change my mind fairly often. I'm already using After Effects in my failing attempts and so a guide using this program would be truly great.

My method uses Combustion, Vegas, Photoshop and MS Word.

I usually make the title and text as a png or a tiff file. This way, I can get it exactly the way I want it. Then I have to con somebody else into animating it. At least I'm saving them from some of the work.

Crap, I didn't send the file yet. Sorry, hard drive problems, and I had to yank my X0 drive out (it's okay - I'm having problems with the others.)

I'll try to get that back in ASAP.

I've now got a pretty solid way of doing crawls using nothing but Adobe After Effects. I could write a simple tutorial for this if anyone's interested.

Yeah I would love to have a go with your method, especially since it only uses one program.

I never could get Adobe AE to justify the text on both sides, like the official crawls. Your method fix that?

Actually, I create it in Word first. That allows me to alter character spacing between each letter. (Yes...Anal...I know. )

Alright I love this talk about what works best, I'd just love even more a tutorial to try to put these methods into practice

You can format the text pretty much as you want it in AE as well, but I think I had to search a little to find all the settings and such. I just love the simplicity of seeing the change immediately.

I just dont have a clue where to start, how do I make it "crawl" up. What do I use as a background? I just have no clue what to do when trying to do this in any aspect of it.

I am the same way. No clue where to begin.
