Copying DVD Menus For Use In A Fan Project

Is there a way to copy/edit an official DVD's menus for use in a fan project? What I am shooting for is something along the lines of OCPMovie's re-use of the 2004 DVD menus in his Classic Editions, but done with Windows programs. It seems like it should be simple, but I am hitting a brick wall.

Why should it be simple?
A DVD menu is a pretty complex thing, You can do it on the mac, but I don't know what is available on the PC to re-use menus, I know programs like DVD Rebuilder have some control over changing what the menus do, but I don't know if it will do what you want.

You would probably be better of ripping the parts and rebuilding the menu in scenarist, or better still come up with your own menus.

if you want to make great discs on the PC then scenarist is still the best tool for the job. It is harder to learn, but has unmatched flexibility.

I did this for my own set, by ripping all menu pieces (including transitions and stuff) with DVD-Shrink, and converting those to uncompressed AVI via VirtualDub. I then edited and retouched them with Adobe AfterEffects. It's a little tricky painting out the menu items in some of the menus (like the Hoth menu from TESB, since there's a probe droid flying behind the menu items), but with some tricks and patience it does work. Also it helped that I work as a CG-guy, so that stuff was pretty straightforward The whole menu authoring was done with Adobe EncoreDVD.

ANH Menu 1 ANH Menu 2 ANH Menu 3 ANH Menu 4 ANH Menu 5

TESB Menu 1 TESB Menu 2 TESB Menu 3 TESB Menu 4 TESB Menu 5

ROTJ Menu 1 ROTJ Menu 2 ROTJ Menu 3 ROTJ Menu 4 ROTJ Menu 5

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but how could I get ahold of your copies? I've wanted a German version of Star Wars for quite a while (I'm a German major).

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

I haven't uploaded or sent them anywhere yet, after all it's 3 dual-layer discs totaling at about 22GB... so I guess an upload is out of question.

I did a search on how to do the same thing for my project as well. Here's the needed information I found:
