Hi Everyone,

Is there anyone here who has the capabilities to capture a Netflix streamed HD broadcast of Conan The Barbarian? I just found out it is the Theatrical version, and this version was not released on the recently released Blu-ray, in any Country, the only thing I would need to know first though is it in its correct aspect ratio, a few years ago it was broadcast on Universal HD and the aspect ratio was messed up, it was 1.85:1, Thanks.

Here's to hoping it has original 1.0 mono track. I'll look online.

What format do they stream in?  Is it some flavor of flash player like Hulu and such?

It uses the Microsoft Silverlight plugin, if that means anything...

It's the right aspect ratio, it looks very good and I LOVE that ending! Would it have killed them to have both on the disc?!

I agree, pretty dumb in my opinion, so can anyone capture this? I would love to make a Blu-ray out of it.

Hmm.  I was going to suggest something like GetFLV, but who the heck uses Silverlight?  I'm pretty sure GetFLV wouldn't work.

What about plugging a 360 into a capture card?

I don't think getflv or some other ordinary streaming video downloader is up for the job.

Since Netflix uses Silverlight for its streams, you need something that is able to handle protected streams.

Dunno for sure if there are any good or working ways to download streaming movies from netflix, but you can go with a screen capture program to get that movie you want.

There's some Audials app that as far as I know works to screen capture and save Netflix streaming videos and shows to the hdd. I don't use Netflix, but I have used the app to capture streaming videos and movies from other streaming sources and got me good quality files.

Dunno, maybe it also works for you.

Actually, it looks like GetFLV might work on Silverlight content.

You can try the demo version first at GetFLV.net and see if it'll help.

I have been googling for info for a while now and can't find anything concrete lol, does anyone know if Conan The Barbarian is streamed in 1080P or 720P? also does it have 2.0 or 5.1 for audio? and at what frame rate does Netflix stream their HD files?

Thanks

I am going to figure out a way to get this one way or another lol, there just has to be a way.

Audials does not work, it only captures in 720, or I just can't figure out how to use it, and GetFLV does not work either.

but this project is going forward, I am going to make a Theatrical version of this, I just really hope I can find a way to edit the existing DTS-HD MA audio I just fixed on the Blu-ray to fit, but I do need something to make this happen(hopefully) does anyone have this German release of the Theatrical version?

http://www.amazon.de/Conan-Barbar-Special-Arnold-Schwarzenegger/dp/B000139QJC/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1316617627&sr=1-1

if so, please PM me.

1 more thing, as much as I like to think I know everything about this movie, I do not, so can anyone verify if the only differences between the Theatrical and International is the scene with Conan and Subotai( the Spring Wind talk lol) and the ending?

I really hope someone has that DVD I posted a link to above, but I also found another file that might be of interest to this project, I have the Conan The Barbarian LaserDisc and it is Theatrical, so there is a source for a lossless LPCM.

Thanks for that link, it appears I am right, the only difference is the added Conan\Subotai scene and pretty much the whole ending sequence, that should be real fun editing all that.

Not sure if anyone really gives a shit about this project lol, but I did capture the lossless LPCM from my Theatrical LD last night, I am currently working on a rough cut of the ending to see if it can actually be done in 1080P, but the rough cut will be 720P for testing, there is no color correcting done yet, like I said, this is just to see if it can work, because the ending is really, really different between theatrical and extended, lots of different cuts, angles, length of shots, etc.

If this does work out I hope at least some of you will watch it and give me suggestions, the color is really different, but since I am trying to use the Blu-ray video as much as possible, I will have to match the Theatrical source to this, unless it is recommended to go the other way, I actually like how both look myself.

Here are some sample pics of what I am looking at, sorry for the small size but this is how I compare them to make sure I have the cuts right.

I think the Blu-ray looks more realistic(bottom image) but the color of the Theatrical looks kind of cool as well.

The Blu-ray timing reminds me of the Star Trek II BD. Same cool, desaturated look (but like Trek II, the grain structure is intact).

Not sure which is more accurate either; the theatrical looks more "right" to my eyes, but that's just me.

I just think the theatrical looks better...

You know looking at them more, maybe I should make the Blu-ray match the Theatrical, that is what I am trying to do here right lol, but I need suggestions on how, damn I wish I was better at color correcting.

On that I cannot help, sorry :(

But I also favor the Theatrical Version colorisation, so your project will not be only a recreation of the cut, but of the look and feel, also.

I don't know anything about color correction. Adywan, Harmy and Lee Thorogood all utilized it in their projects, maybe they can help you out.

Which one looks closer to the previous LD and DVD releases of the theatrical cut?
