Computer for VIDEO EDITING

I am looking to get a new computer, and one of the major reasons I want a new one is for video editing. I would even like to try my own hand at editing together my own cut of the Star Wars movies. My question is, if I'm not building my own computer, what computer would you reccommend for this? I am considering the Sony Vaio Media Center computers and the HP Media Center computers. Which ones are better? And what specs should I make sure I have? How important is having the fastest processor? Can I do this work just as well with a 2.8Ghz CPU as I could with a 3.2Ghz CPU? Which is the best video card? I really need advice on this, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Video editing? Check out the "Bowling for Coruscant" thread on "Suggestions and Ideas"
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I really need info on what kind of computer to get. The sooner I get a computer I can do video editing on and video captures and DVD transfers, the sooner I can contribute to the Original Trilogy fan community.

I'll just tell you what Bossk and DAYV would tell you (and DAYV has done some editing, so I trust his judgment): Get a Mac. Better processing and faster compiling times for this kind of thing.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Yeah, I know everyone in the industry uses Macs but everything I own in hardware and software is PC, and I'm familiar with using the PC, where I'm lost on a Mac. Plus this will be used for a general purpose computer as well as video editing, so I want to be comfortable with it. I just don't think I'm willing to switch to a Mac. I'll be satisfied with a PC even if it's not as good, I just need to know which PC to get. Thanks for the advice though. If I had loads of money I'd get a Mac just for video editing and use a PC for net surfing and everything else that I normally do that doesn't require that kind of specialization that the Mac has.
