Your caption for "sw4-sc163.__.sh06-lukehaze.jpg" aka "Shot is either shifted a few frames, or at the beginning it is zoomed in originally" is incorrect. Look at the front square of the helmet, above the nose. If you look at the bottom part of the block, although it's hard to in the your screenshot, you'll see that you can see more of it in the 1997 version. Most likely a different angle or they chose a frame or 2 earlier to start it at, or an alternate take. It could be an alternate take for the 97 version because Luke's front teeth aren't showing, but they can be see in the 1977 screenshot.

No - it is definitely the same take shifted by a few frames.

Well, since others are posting here. I've found this thread and I don't have too much to offer, except when it comes to the 2006 GOUT. I believe the master tape they used for ANH did not have the original opening crawl on it. In Empire of Dreams they used a short clip of the original crawl and the stars are completely different. I think they edited the original crawl in in some way.

This thread is fascinating. Makes me want to make an edit that has those other credits and that cloud glitch. Interesting to note that the first theaters had this other type of print and stereo while the others had the familiar credits and mono.

Wasn't sure where to post this but i just watched the Tusken Raider Attack from ANH on sw.com and while it still has those new CGI rocks from 2011 the Ben Kenobi scream is the old one from 2004 (Boga version) again.

Was really surprised by that.

The 2004 version is unbelievably better than 2011's.

Hey guys, I hope this is the right place to post it but here is a production photograph from Episode VI that I recently found.

" />

It was from a video on YouTube all about Technicolor's Technirama process. Star Wars was briefly mentioned as an example of how live action footage was often shot in Technirama/VistaVision in preparation for the SFX shots, which were shot with the same process.

I just thought if was interesting as I've never seen this sequence behind the scenes', so the photo gives you an idea of what environment looked like on the day.

Is the documentary still on youtube?

Do we have all the shots of Blu-Ray Ewok eye replacement documented somewhere? Because it seems that many remained untouched and I don’t wanna go through all the Ewok scenes and compare them if someone’s already done it.

Just posting this here in case it hasn’t been mentioned yet.

When Luke climbs down into the Quad Laser Turret, the first frame is a duplication of the second frame except for a very odd cutout of Luke’s hair and some highlight detail from the correct frame. Very odd.

I’m a bit confused as to what the second image is. Is this from the silver screen edition or something new that has been mocked up? The two frames shown are the first frame in the shot from their respective releases?

Edit: I’ve pulled up the blu-ray and that does seem like the case.

The shadow on the left still moves. What it looks like they’ve done take the second frame, shift Luke’s body a few pixels (stretching his arms very slightly), as well as cut out the hair and shadow from the real first frame. Presumably there was some sort of major damage that occurred to the negative? The hair and shadow in frame 1 are extremely blue compared to frame 2. I know sometimes the color is off in ‘glue frames’ but presumably they had a lot of that to deal with in their restoration. There must have been some other major damage right over the top of Luke, except for the hair. And they decided that leaving the hair and shadow was enough for our eyes to approximate as movement. Or perhaps the frame was lost entirely, so they took those elements from positive prints.

Really cool, weird catch.

The second image is my corrected version of that frame, which is a combination of the Blu-ray and -1’s release. It is a confusing comparison, apologies.

And yeah, it’s bizarre. My guess would be that whoever was working on it cut out as much of the frame as they could, then forgot about it, since the parts from the original frame don’t even have similar coloration.

Here’s another single frame issue that I’m not sure has been found yet:

Falcon Flash

This flash from the beginning of the gun turret battle is not in the Blu-ray, though remnants of it can still be seen. It is however in Silver Screen and GOUT.

Another change I’d found a while ago, this one’s easier to see in motion:

Brightening

The Blu-ray has this shot brighten from start to end, whereas the the Silver Screen version and the GOUT has no evidence of this.

Is it an actual flash or just another mis-colored first frame?

It’s the second-to-last frame of that shot. It seems like an intentional creative choice to make it a flash, I just don’t know if it was omitted from the Blu-ray because of degradation or forgetfulness.

Comparing it to 35mm LPP, I’m pretty sure this is not a recomp - the visual difference is caused by the DNR in the GOUT.

This matte painting is actually recomposited in the 2004SE (not sure if it was in '97).

This shot has not been recomposited but the wipe to it has been redone, which led to the shot being time-shifted by a few frames - thus the different positions of ships.

I thought this may be worth reposting here:

Here are the things from 005’s gallery
( https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+DrewStewart/albums/5528361230751063825 ) that remain in the v2.5 cut:

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+DrewStewart/albums/5528361230751063825/5529747108149536594?pid=5529747108149536594&oid=102542760950977079734 - this is not actually a change - the garbage mattes are simply not visible due to higher contrast of the transfer.

Again, all of the above are not actually changed - the thicker scan-lines in the GOUT are due to the downscaling of the image.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/160952/picture:1

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+DrewStewart/albums/5528361230751063825/5529747161311639586?pid=5529747161311639586&oid=102542760950977079734

This one probably has been redone, but it has been done optically in '97 and they look nearly identical in motion, so I don’t see much of a reason to lower the quality of the entire image for it.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/160952/picture:2

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+DrewStewart/albums/5528361230751063825/5529747315417668658?pid=5529747315417668658&oid=102542760950977079734

Again, this is not actually a change and the slightly different look is due to the DNR of the GOUT and differences in contrast and resolution.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/160952/picture:3

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+DrewStewart/albums/5528361230751063825/5529747327571411234?pid=5529747327571411234&oid=102542760950977079734

This one is also not recomposited but the wipe leading up to it is new and the shot got shifted by a couple of frames, which is why the ships seem in different positions in comparison on the same timeline. I left this wipe, because again it has been done optically in '97 and aside from the tiny bit different timing, it looks the same.

In your comments which are correct the painted engine glow sans star destroyer to accompany it was removed.

But actually that was a missing star destroyer element. The engine glow was done but the star destroyer got missed in the original film.

Bit of trivia there.

But the Special Edition did not do “the right” thing

THere are meant to be 5 star destroyers and the Executor. One of the Star destroyers is hidden behind the Executor we see it drop down a few shots earlier.

Here’s a weird one. Top is Silver Screen, bottom is GOUT:
Sure The Computer Can Hit It

There are a few laser bolts in this shot that aren’t in the Silver Screen, and presumably weren’t in the theatrical release. They appear to be in the '97 edition and they are definitely in the Blu-ray.

Could they have accidentally been cleaned out of the SSE? If they’re single frame flashes they might’ve been detected as damage?

Maybe poita can comment about how his other scans look, even if SSE does indeed lack the lasers.
