OK, so, I have quite a problem on my hands - apparently Windows can't be installed on an HDD with a GTP partitioning.

Are you booting in UEFI mode?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

(EDIT: Ah nm. I found a post where somebody had spotted it previously.  Anyway, I guess I'll leave the post here.  Next time I'll do some searching beforehand.)

Ghost Luke!  Has anybody ever spotted this before?

This is present from 1997 onward from what I can tell.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

That's in our comparison, I believe. How does one miss that!?!

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

It is.  I just spotted it and immediately ran over here and posted without looking.  My bad.

Tack is complaining that this made it through at least 3 rounds of quality control at ILM/LFL, not at you. It's worthy to be brought up again, as an error introduced in the SE that remains uncorrected.

Oh yeah, I figured that.  I just genuinely felt pretty dumb for not looking in the first place though, so that's why I posted that lol.

Has an unedited version of the Vaseline-forcefield scene (#83-4) ever been found?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Ah, it's still in my copy of Revisited too! ;(

I noticed, while despecializing this shot, that the compositing of the painting is also wrong (notice the discontinued outline of the Falcon's underside, where the ramp is attached in the SE - and the same thing on the other side):

Alright, help me out guys.

It was brought to my attention that 3PO was in a different position during the wipe, but now taking a closer look, everyone is different. Was this a different take they used in the SE and put the original foreground over top? Was the foreground a composite element originally?

It looks like Luke is played by an entirely different person. On top he has no beard, but he does on the bottom- and it doesn't look like he's Obi Wan.

The second image has darker contrast, making his jaw shadow darker, making it look slightly more like a beard.

Yeah, it's definitely a different take of the speeder - as to whether the foreground element was originally comped in, I don't know but it is actually quite likely - they would have comped it in to cover the wheels.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas had a new landspeeder built and reshot the scene for the SE. The curve of the windshield is different and it goes back farther towards the actors' heads. There's an indent on the back of the engine nacelle in the 1977 shot that is not there in the SE shot.

Maybe it really is a different take from the 1977, just from an angle a little different so that different details showed up. But my theory is it's a reshoot.

The 1977 shot was a pickup done at the last minute in the California desert with doubles for the actors. So Lucas would not have a problem doing a reshoot, I think.

Yes, they definitely used the original foreground and then enhanced the shot with another take.

No. You would be able to make out the matting if they did. It's just shot at a low angle to hide the wheels.

I think by keeping the foreground of the low angled original shot and at the same time lift the speeder, it just makes the impression that the speeder is flying way too high above the ground.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Not necessarily, because the foreground element is out of focus, I think they could have put the mask out of focus, which would hide the matting.

Still, you're probably right though.

I don't think it is a different take.  It is noted in the 005 guide that some of the landspeeder shots the timing was changed.  Best to use one of the Split versions to see the effect over time, it is generally two to three frames where the landspeeder from the original ends up +3 or -3 frames in the 1997 or 2004.  The backgrounds were often stretched vertically as that made the lifting of the speeder easier to recomp.
